WhatsApp → Settings → Storage and data → Media auto-download
Set When using mobile data to No media (or only Photos).

2) Use Low Data for calls
Settings → Storage and data → turn ON Use less data for calls.

3) Backup on Wi‑Fi only
Settings → Chats → Chat backup → Back up over → Wi‑Fi
Also toggle OFF Include videos (saves a lot).

Tip: Turn on Disappearing messages for busy chats.

If you lose your SIM / number
- Call your carrier ASAP to block SIM + request SIM re-issue
