Storing API keys in secure manner

Hello mates! What are the best ways for storing in a secure manner an API key that should be used inside scripts in a Linux environment? I read about gnome-keyring but I never used it and I don't know if it could be a secure solution. I'm using Arch Linux as OS and GNOME as desktop environment.

I'm reading also about git-remote-gcrypt, git-secret, git-crypt, blackbox but I never used them and I dont know if they are suitable for storing API keys securely that can be called by scripts (for example bash or python or similar) in Linux.

Do you have some suggestions or experience on this kind of solutions?
