I don't know who/ how to trust

0 I have had a few friends over the past say 10 years who were self-proclaimed hackers and yes they did know way more than I did as far as computer stuff goes cuz I missed a few days of that class I mean I used to know my computer s*** but now I don't. so basically I don't know whether someone's telling me the truth or not or whether they can really do what they say they can or not and because I've known a couple hackers who also turned out to be real scumbag junkies who are now back in my town and back trying to be in my life that I keep trying to avoid and block and not know them but they just keep calling and showing up basically because I have something they don't which is whatever they want-- or at least they assume I do more than they do--money, house, car, heart, their ex, a clean record, a clean IP, a clean computer, a clean phone, probably not bad credit, already-setup accounts, and some mutual friends who share a lot of the same ignorance, naiivity and vulnerability as I, but also share the same desperation as they (the hackers) do.

I need to talk to someone who knows these terms as i don't: ss7, cloning, remote, sms web page/previews, spying without phone ever in hand, locations of sent msgs, etc.

I need to know what they are capable of doing when they get fed up with me not giving into them and it's easier for them anyway to just hack me for their needs.

I'm kinda getting paranoid like, and I'm not a paranoid type. Cautious and street smart but like I said, I missed a day or two and have never caught up with today's tech.

Can anyone decode this thing?

Hey. I got this bin file somewhere in my PC, and I know it's not important, but I decided to test my decoding skills to decode it, and since it was only like ~20 hex characters it seemed very easy.

I ended up using ALL python encoders and all possible vscode's hex editor encoders and none seems to be working :(

here is the hex :

I think it's gotta be two strings? serialized in some c++ format . thats just a guess tho. but since the application that generated it was probably written in c++ (ExpressVPN), I'm assuming this is some serialized string, but not with any ordinary encoder?

anyways, if someone could help out, I'll be glad. and, well, if it turned out to be some confidential file, please be a good person and don't advertise it haha, (it's 99.99% not confidential tho)

Video games developer and distributor Ubisoft has confirmed that it was hacked earlier this month, with the Lapsus$ group believed to be responsible.
The French-headquartered gaming company, known for leading titles including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six Siege, has around 117 million active users.

In a statement, Ubisoft says that the incident caused temporary disruption to some of its games, systems, and services.

“Our IT teams are working with leading external experts to investigate the issue. As a precautionary measure we initiated a company-wide password reset,” it says.

“Also, we can confirm that all our games and services are functioning normally and that at this time there is no evidence any player personal information was accessed or exposed as a by-product of this incident.”

The group later commented in the same thread that it had not been targeting Ubisoft customer data.

Last month, Lapsus$ claimed it had leaked password hashes for employees of graphics chipmaker Nvidia, causing outages of its developer tools and email systems.

The group later threatened to leak files related to Nvidia’s GPUs unless the company open-sourced its graphics processing unit (GPU) drivers.

And just this month, the group claimed responsibility for hacking Samsung’s systems and dumping nearly 200 GB of stolen internal files online.

Steganography is a hiding technique, which aims at delivering a hidden message where some other kind of information is already being delivered and is generally used in secret communication between acknowledged parties to establish a secured communication in an unnoticeable manner as well as to avoid drawing suspicion to the transmission of a hidden data. Many methods for hiding information in audio and images exist. More information about the steganography types, embedding techniques, and a more detailed article about how image steganography works can be found here. Choice of toolsThankfully, Linux users can choose from a variety of open-source tools such as Steghide, Exif, Stegosuite, Steg, Outguess, and many more. This tutorial uses Kali Linux as one of the many Debian-based Linux distros available that can be used to install and use the tools below.

We will use one graphical and one command line steganography tool for this tutorial.
1. Steghide: Is an open-source, command-line software that can encode and decode data into image files.

Current Version: 0.5.1

Features:

* compression of embedded data
* encryption of embedded data
* embedding of a checksum to verify the integrity of the extracted data
* support for JPEG, BMP, WAV and AU files

Creating an image with a secret message in it.

* Create a folder with the name of your choice: mkdir steghide* Create a new text files with some text. – This will be the secret that we want to embed in the image of our choice. cd steghideecho "the secret message" > message.txthttps://www.blackhatethicalhacking.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/create_folder_and_secret_message.png
* Download or use an image of your choice to hide the secret message.
For this example we used his test image that you can download it using wget steghide embed -cf Patern_test.jpg -ef message.txt -sf secret.jpg* Embed: embed data
* -cf: cover file
* -ef: embed file
* -sf: output file – stego file
You can also choose between different encryption algorithms and compression levels.
See the user manual of steghide with: man steghide* It will prompt you to enter a passphrase needed to then later extract the message.txt from the secret.jpg image.

* Enter a passphrase and re-enter it for confirmation – be sure to remember it because you will not be able to decode the secret message from the stego file.

2. Stegosuite: Is a graphical interface steganographic tool written in Python for hiding data/extracting data them from images and more features.

Creating an image with a secret message in it.

It’s a way easier method since no prior knowledge of bash scripting or terminal is required.
* Run the tool from the terminal by typing stegosuite in the terminal and then click enter or you can find it from the navigation menu.

* Click file from the menu bar and choose the image to hide the secret message

* You then just type the secret message, add the secret message.txt file
(right click on the embedded files and add it) that you want to embed, enter a password and click Embed.

* The stego file will be created on the same directory where the image was saved with the name _embed on the end.
e.g. original filename: test.jpg will be test_embed.jpg
* To extract the message just add the stego file from the file option on the header menu, type the password and click Extract.
* The secret message file will be saved also in the same directory where the stego file was saved with the same name that was embedded.

RecoverPy : Interactively Find And Recover Deleted Or Overwritten Files From Your Terminal

RecoverPy searches through every block of your partition to find your request. You can already find plenty of solutions to recover deleted files, but it can be a hassle to recover overwritten files.

Installation

RecoverPy is currently only available on Linux systems.

Dependancies

Mandatory: To list and search through your partitions, recoverpy uses grep, dd, and lsblkcommands.

Optional: To display real time grep progress, you can install progress.

To install all dependencies:

* Debian-like: apt install grep coreutils util-linux progress
* Arch: pacman -S grep coreutils util-linux progress
* Fedora: dnf install grep coreutils util-linux progress

Installation from pip

python3 -m pip install recoverpy

Usage

python3 -m recoverpy

If you are not logged as root use sudo recoverpyor log in with su -before execution.

Select the system partition in which your file was. If you are out of luck, you can alternatively search in your home partition, maybe your IDE, text editor, etc. made a backup at some point.

Type a text string to search. See tips below for better results.

Note that searching a string in a whole partition may take a while. (see euphemism)

Default save path is /tmp/, click on Settings to edit configuration.

Start search, Results will appear in the left-hand box.

Select a result to display the corresponding partition block content in the right-hand box.

Once you have found your precious, select Save.

You can now either save this block individually or explore neighboring blocks for the remaining parts of the file. You could then save it all in one file.

Rathole : A Lightweight, Stable And High-Performance Reverse Proxy For NAT Traversal

Rathole, like frp and ngrok, can help to expose the service on the device behind the NAT to the Internet, via a server with a public IP. Features* High Performance Much higher throughput can be achieved than frp, and more stable when handling a large volume of connections. See Benchmark
* Low Resource Consumption Consumes much fewer memory than similar tools. See Benchmark. The binary can be as small as ~500KiB to fit the constraints of devices, like embedded devices as routers.
* Security Tokens of services are mandatory and service-wise. The server and clients are responsible for their own configs. With the optional Noise Protocol, encryption can be configured at ease. No need to create a self-signed certificate! TLS is also supported.
* Hot Reload Services can be added or removed dynamically by hot-reloading the configuration file. HTTP API is WIP. QuickstartA full-powered ratholecan be obtained from the release page. Or build from source for other platforms and minimizing the binary. A Docker image is also available.

The usage of ratholeis very similar to frp. If you have experience with the latter, then the configuration is very easy for you. The only difference is that configuration of a service is split into the client side and the server side, and a token is mandatory.

To use rathole, you need a server with a public IP, and a device behind the NAT, where some services that need to be exposed to the Internet.

Assuming you have a NAS at home behind the NAT, and want to expose its ssh service to the Internet:

1. On the server which has a public IP

Create server.tomlwith the following content and accommodate it to your needs.

bind_addr = “0.0.0.0:2333” # 2333specifies the port that rathole listens for clients
[server.services.my_nas_ssh]
token = “use_a_secret_that_only_you_know” # Token that is used to authenticate the client for the service. Change to a arbitrary value.
bind_addr = “0.0.0.0:5202” # 5202specifies the port that exposes my_nas_sshto the Internet

Then run:

./rathole server.toml

1. On the host which is behind the NAT (your NAS)

Create client.tomlwith the following content and accommodate it to your needs. client.toml[client]
remote_addr = “myserver.com:2333” # The address of the server. The port must be the same with the port in server.bind_addr[client.services.my_nas_ssh]
token = “use_a_secret_that_only_you_know” # Must be the same with the server to pass the validation
local_addr = “127.0.0.1:22” # The address of the service that needs to be forwarded

1. Now the client will try to connect to the server myserver.comon port 2333, and any traffic to myserver.com:5202will be forwarded to the client’s port 22.

So you can ssh myserver.com:5202to ssh to your NAS.

To run ratholerun as a background service on Linux, checkout the systemd examples. Configurationratholecan automatically determine to run in the server mode or the client mode, according to the content of the configuration file, if only one of [server]and [client]block is present, like the example in Quickstart.

But the [client]and [server]block can also be put in one file. Then on the server side, run rathole --server config.tomland on the client side, run rathole --client config.tomlto explicitly tell ratholethe running mode.

Before heading to the full configuration specification, it’s recommend to skim the configuration examples to get a feeling of the configuration format.
