Exploiting bollard controllers?

Hello.

I very curious as to how one would go about to exploit bollards by recreating the signal controllers send to lower them. I know public transport, ambulance etc. can lower the bollards whenever they want, unsure how though.

How do they work, do they have a controller that lowers them that somehow every bus and ambulance has? Can I catch and recreate those signals to lower the bollards for the time it takes a car to pass over them?
