Doing more IELTS sets won’t help if you forget why you lost points. Use the IELTS dashboard as a mistake tracker, not a test archive.

1. After each section, write one loss pattern only: T/F/NG confusion, map labeling, listening plural endings, Task 1 overview missing.

2. Tag the mistake by cause, not by feeling:
• timing
• question type
• grammar/vocab
• careless reading

3. Review after 3 tests. If 4 wrong answers came from the same cause, that is your next drill. Example: not “practice Reading,” but “do 15 T/F/NG items and underline the exact word that changes meaning.”

4. Build a one-page funding sheet with 3 columns: covered by scholarship, covered by family/savings, and still unfunded. If the third column is real, treat the offer as risky, not solved.

2. Open the university’s own financial aid page and scan only for 4 lines: need-based or merit, international student eligibility, separate scholarship application, deadline.

3. Then open the admissions page or Common App guide and check whether aid consideration is automatic or requires extra forms.

4. Make one row in your spreadsheet with only: “eligible?”, “full/partial?”, “extra form?”, “deadline?”, “source link”. If one answer is missing, don’t trust summaries.

If you need funding, don’t ask only “Does this school have scholarships?” Ask what kind, because need-based and merit-based aid change your whole application plan.

1. Need-based: money depends on your family’s financial situation. If a college says it meets demonstrated need, your grades alone won’t answer the main question.

2. Merit-based: money rewards academic profile, talent, leadership, or another achievement. A family can be wealthy and still win merit aid.

3. Do this in your spreadsheet: add one column called aid type and force each school into need, merit, both, or unclear.

4. Then add main trigger: financial documents, GPA/rank, test scores, portfolio, interview, separate scholarship form.

If a school is unclear, don’t guess. Search its official aid page until you can answer: What decides the money here? That one line will save weak applications.

If your Task 2 feels “clear” but still gets 6.5, check this: one body paragraph is probably making a claim and sneaking in an exception, cause, or second argument. The reader can follow the English, but the logic line bends.

1. Give each paragraph one job only. Write a 4-word label before drafting: main benefit, first cause, why this fails.

2. Test every sentence: does it prove that label? If not, move it or cut it. Example: if the paragraph label is online classes save time, don’t add however, some students feel isolated. That starts a new job.

3. Use the last sentence to lock the point, not open a new branch.

Mini-fix: after writing, underline the topic sentence and conclusion sentence of each body paragraph. If they don’t match, coherence drops.

A scholarship letter is not “safe” just because the number looks good. First check whether the award is conditional or unconditional.

1. Find the exact condition: is it tied to final grades, diploma results, English score, visa status, full-time enrollment, major, or GPA after year 1? “Maintain satisfactory progress” is very different from “keep 3.5 GPA every semester.”

2. Check the trigger and timing: when can they reduce, delay, or cancel it? Before enrollment, after transcript review, or only after first semester? Ask whether one bad result removes the whole award or only part.

3. Verify renewal rules: many offers look generous in year 1 but become weak later. Confirm years covered, credit-load minimum, housing/tuition limits, and whether the amount stays fixed if fees rise.

4. Get it in writing: email admissions or financial aid and ask for the official policy link or PDF. If the condition is vague, that is your warning sign.

If a college deadline looks different on Common App and the university site, don’t guess. Verify it in this order and save proof.

1. Open the school in Common App guide. Note the application plan names exactly: Early Decision, EA, Regular, transfer, scholarship form, writing supplement.

2. Open the university’s own admissions page and match each plan word-for-word. Some schools list a general deadline on one page and a different scholarship or honors deadline on another.

3. Check requirements on the official page only: test policy, English proof, portfolio, CSS/Profile, recommendation count, interview, financial forms.

4. Put both sources into one note with 3 columns: item, Common App says, university says. If they conflict, trust the university page and screenshot it.

Most IELTS students remember scores and forget causes. That is why the same mistakes repeat. Use the IELTS dashboard as a running error log, not a place where finished tests go to die.

1. After each section, save only 1 error label per wrong answer. Not “bad reading.” Write the actual pattern: T/F/NG paraphrase miss, map left-right confusion, plural ending missed, intro too long in Speaking Part 2.

2. At the end of the week, count labels, not tests. If 6 mistakes come from 2 patterns, that is your next practice target.

3. Build a fix beside each pattern. Example: if you keep missing plural endings in Listening, your rule is check noun endings before moving on.

The point is diagnosis. With 466 tests, 691 section drills, and 2,700+ AI evaluations, the useful move is not “do more” but “name the leak, then patch it.”

If you’re an international applicant, don’t treat need-based and merit scholarships as two names for the same money. They reward different things, so they change where you should spend application time.

1. Target need-based aid if your family cannot pay much. These colleges care less about “discounts” and more about your documented financial need. Your job: check whether the school gives need-based aid to internationals, whether it meets full need or only partial need, and what forms it requires.

2. Target merit aid if your academics are a major strength. These awards usually depend on grades, test scores, ranking, awards, or talent. Your job: find the exact cutoff, whether extra essays are needed, and whether the award is automatic or competitive.

3. Do this filter before applying: for each university, write one line only: need / merit / both / neither. If it’s “neither,” stop spending hours there.

Most students finish an IELTS set, check the score, and move on. That hides the pattern. Use the IELTS dashboard to compare your last 5 mistakes across sections, not your last 5 test scores.
