A lot of Task 2 essays get stuck at 6.5 not because the ideas are weak, but because each paragraph quietly does two jobs at once. The examiner can follow your sentences, but not your logic.

Try this paragraph test:
1. Write one sentence above each body paragraph: This paragraph proves that...
If you can’t finish it in one clear claim, the paragraph is mixed.

2. Use a 3-part paragraph frame:
claim → explain → example
Bad flow: advantage + disadvantage + example in one paragraph.
Better: one paragraph = one reason only.

3. Check every sentence:
If a sentence supports a different claim, move it or delete it.

Weak paragraph: cheaper, flexible, but also lonely.
Strong paragraph: Online education is more flexible for working adults → explain schedule control → give one short example.

Many students search for “full scholarship” without checking what kind. That mistake wastes applications.

1. Need-based aid asks: can your family pay? Colleges use income, assets, family size, sometimes home equity. If you need a lot, target schools that explicitly fund international students by need.

2. Merit scholarships ask: how strong are you compared with other applicants? Grades, test scores, awards, portfolio, leadership, sometimes interview. Family income may not matter.

3. Your move: make 2 columns in your spreadsheet: Need-based and Merit. For each university, check: is aid available to internationals, is a separate form required, is it full or partial, and can need + merit be combined?

4. If your family can pay almost nothing, don’t rely mainly on merit. Many merit awards are partial and still leave a huge gap.

Scholarship pages on aggregator sites are often outdated. The fix: verify every school on its own financial aid page before you spend hours applying.

2. On each university site, search these exact phrases: international student financial aid, need-based aid, merit scholarships, CSS Profile, outside scholarships.

4. Verify policy traps: “aid for domestic students only,” “first-year only,” “need-aware,” or “limited funding.”

If Speaking Part 2 feels robotic, the problem is often shape, not language. Most answers sound memorized because students spend 20 seconds on each bullet. Don’t do that.

1. In your 1-minute prep, pick a story spine: when → what happened → why it mattered.
2. Use the cue card bullets only as support, not as 4 equal paragraphs.
3. Aim for this time split in your 2 minutes:
• 20–25 sec: setup
• 60–70 sec: main event/details
• 20–25 sec: why it was memorable/useful

Example: if the card asks about a helpful person, don’t list appearance, job, personality, and one event. Start: “Last winter, when I was preparing for a math exam, my cousin stepped in…” Then stay on one scene and add 2 specific details. End with impact.

If you need big funding, don’t search “full scholarship” as one category. First separate need-based and merit-based aid, because they reward totally different things.

1. Need-based: the college asks what your family can realistically pay. Strong grades help admission, but aid depends mostly on finances. If your budget is very low, prioritize schools that explicitly say they meet or consider full demonstrated need for international students.

2. Merit-based: money is awarded for academics, talent, leadership, or profile strength. Your family income may not matter at all. These awards are often partial, so check the typical amount, not just the maximum headline.

3. Use the right list: make 3 columns for each college: “need-based available?”, “automatic or separate merit application?”, “can total aid cover living costs too?” If a school offers only small merit awards and no need-based aid, cut it early if you need a near-full budget.

If your application week turns into 12 open tabs and zero finished work, use a 3-block rule: 1 school task, 1 document task, 1 English task.

Doing more IELTS sets won’t help if you forget why you lost points. Use the IELTS dashboard as a mistake tracker, not a test archive.

1. After each section, write one loss pattern only: T/F/NG confusion, map labeling, listening plural endings, Task 1 overview missing.

2. Tag the mistake by cause, not by feeling:
• timing
• question type
• grammar/vocab
• careless reading

3. Review after 3 tests. If 4 wrong answers came from the same cause, that is your next drill. Example: not “practice Reading,” but “do 15 T/F/NG items and underline the exact word that changes meaning.”

A scholarship offer is not the same as a fully affordable move. Students get excited by “tuition covered” and miss the costs that appear before classes even start.

2. Read the award line by line: does it cover tuition only, or also housing, meals, insurance, books, and summer terms? “Full tuition” can still leave a big gap.

3. Ask one direct question: How much cash must I show or pay before I can enroll and get my visa?

4. Build a one-page funding sheet with 3 columns: covered by scholarship, covered by family/savings, and still unfunded. If the third column is real, treat the offer as risky, not solved.

This check saves you from chasing an offer you can’t activate.

If a school is unclear, don’t guess. Search its official aid page until you can answer: What decides the money here? That one line will save weak applications.

If your Task 2 feels “clear” but still gets 6.5, check this: one body paragraph is probably making a claim and sneaking in an exception, cause, or second argument. The reader can follow the English, but the logic line bends.

1. Give each paragraph one job only. Write a 4-word label before drafting: main benefit, first cause, why this fails.

2. Test every sentence: does it prove that label? If not, move it or cut it. Example: if the paragraph label is online classes save time, don’t add however, some students feel isolated. That starts a new job.

3. Use the last sentence to lock the point, not open a new branch.

Mini-fix: after writing, underline the topic sentence and conclusion sentence of each body paragraph. If they don’t match, coherence drops.

A scholarship letter is not “safe” just because the number looks good. First check whether the award is conditional or unconditional.

1. Find the exact condition: is it tied to final grades, diploma results, English score, visa status, full-time enrollment, major, or GPA after year 1? “Maintain satisfactory progress” is very different from “keep 3.5 GPA every semester.”

2. Check the trigger and timing: when can they reduce, delay, or cancel it? Before enrollment, after transcript review, or only after first semester? Ask whether one bad result removes the whole award or only part.

3. Verify renewal rules: many offers look generous in year 1 but become weak later. Confirm years covered, credit-load minimum, housing/tuition limits, and whether the amount stays fixed if fees rise.

4. Get it in writing: email admissions or financial aid and ask for the official policy link or PDF. If the condition is vague, that is your warning sign.

If a college deadline looks different on Common App and the university site, don’t guess. Verify it in this order and save proof.

1. Open the school in Common App guide. Note the application plan names exactly: Early Decision, EA, Regular, transfer, scholarship form, writing supplement.

2. Open the university’s own admissions page and match each plan word-for-word. Some schools list a general deadline on one page and a different scholarship or honors deadline on another.

3. Check requirements on the official page only: test policy, English proof, portfolio, CSS/Profile, recommendation count, interview, financial forms.
