Stereo optical sound tracks can be seen on the right of this scan of a 35 mm film print. On the far left is the SDDS digital audio track in blue, with the Dolby Digital audio track visible in between the sprocket holes. Modern film prints often include multiple audio formats like this so a single print can be sent to a wide range of cinemas, whatever their equipment.
