On Nov 17, 2020, Ted Hui lodged judicial review at the High court. He condemned DOJ for violating the constitutional and depriving civilians’ right to bring a private prosecution. He demanded the court to withdraw the decision of DOJ on these two cases.

Beijing blasts Bob Rae after ambassador calls for UN to investigate genocide claims
Rae has asked the UN Human Rights Council to investigate China's treatment of the country's Uighurs in Xinjiang. Beijing has denied any wrongdoing, saying it is running a voluntary employment and language-training program.
Zhao on Monday used a number of select statistics that suggest China's Uighur population is growing at a faster rate than Canada's population to mock Rae's suggestions that the Uighurs are being persecuted.
However, Zhao's statistics appear to have been incomplete or inaccurate and did not address a report by The Associated Press in June that birthrates have been dramatically cut in Uighur-dominated areas of Xinjiang.

Hong Kong Police Force Allegedly Plagiarizes Popular Japanese Anime "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba"
Katsunobu Kato, the Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan met the press on Nov 17, 2020 and was asked to comment on a Facebook post by the Hong Kong Police Force which was accused of plagiarising the Japanese anime "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba".
Kato stated that he wouldn't comment on the particular case but emphasised that Japan values the copyrights of animated works and will investigate any suspected plagiarism.
Earlier this month, the Hong Kong Police Force created an animated character to promote "fraud prevention". The character was named "Grape-jiro" and had similar appearance to the main character "Tanjiro" from the anime.
The Hong Kong police named their post as "13th form of Antifraud Breathing - Don't be greedy for cheap things", which was clearly plagiarising the expression used in the original anime.
After the claims of plagiarism were made, the Police Public Relation Branch (#PPRB) responded to Apple Daily's inquiry, claiming that the post did not plagiarise from any external source, and stated the character was created using the theme "grape".
The incident was quickly noticed by the Japanese media and TBS also reported the incident on the news. Many netizens critisized the act of plagiarism and claimed that "China lacks the idea of copyright".

Because of pandemic, China’s grown model and wealth distribution system may fail to generate sufficient economic power to keep the country going on the current path. Internal dissent is increasing.
After the enactment of a new National Security Law (NSL) on 30th June, street demonstration are now unlikely. However, protest is still alive, just in a more subtle and tenacious form. As expected, China continues to grip Hong Kong in its iron fist in the coming year, we will have to come up with new ways to resist.

Rape, Theft, Drug: Hong Kong Police
In the past 4 to 5 months in 2020, a total of 16 police officers were arrested. Police illegitimacies, such like drug trafficking, theft, rape and assault, were revealed.
From 2015 to 2018, at least 107 police officers were arrested and at least 6 officers were involved in rapes and sexual harrassement cases.
Examples of police illegitimacies include:
1. Drug
A sergeant was arrested for the possession of crystal methamphetamine totalling 25kg suspected to have been stolen from drugs seized.
2. Abduction and Rape
On 16 November 2020, several police officers went clubbing together. Two officers were suspected of abducting and raping a 20-year-old drunk woman at a love motel in Mong Kok.
One of the officers is a riot police while the other one has recently been transferred to the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau (#OCTB).
3. Theft
An officer of Police Public Relations Bureau (#PPRB) was arrested for stealing helmets, gloves, canned abalone, camera batteries among other items.
4. Credit Card and Identity Theft
A 28 year-old police officer was suspected of misappropriating credit card for the purchase of two iphones, worth a total of HK$25,000.
He was charged with one count of theft and two counts of obtaining property by deception.

Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison visited Tokyo Japan, meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on Tuesday (17th November) and will stay for two days. In addition to discussing bilateral tourism and economic cooperation, the greater focus will be on military cooperation. After closed-door talks, the two announced that they had reached an agreement on bilateral military cooperation, to facilitate training and joint operations, strengthen the defence ties against China.
After the meeting they announced a joint statement, expressing their "serious concerns about the situation in the South China Sea and reconfirmed their strong opposition to any coercive or unilateral attempts to change the status quo and thereby increase tensions in the region." without directly mentioned China. They also shared "grave concerns" over the situation in Hong Kong, emphasised the "importance of upholding Hong Kong’s democratic processes and institutions, as well as the high degree of autonomy set out in the Basic Law and Sino-British Joint Declaration."

The mass resignation of pan-democratic legislators in process against the disqualification of four legislators takes Hong Kong back 23 years.
After disqualifying 12 opposition candidates, Chief Executive Carrie Lam sought approval from Beijing regarding the postponement of the Legislative Council Elections. While the National People’s Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) announced to extend all current Hong Kong Legislators for at least a year, Beijing did not mention the four legislators disqualified by Lam later. It implied Beijing was fine with allowing all members of all the legislature to continue for another year.
Only upon Lam’s request, NPCSC passed a resolution to disqualify “legislators who promote Hong Kong independence, ask external forces to interfere in Hong Kong’s affairs or commit other acts that threaten national security”.
Carrie Lam “has created a path for the executive to remove legislators at will, without the involvement of the legislature itself or the judiciary. The Hong Kong Bar Association pointed out the government’s approach to ‘violates the basic principles of fairness and due process inherent in the rule of law.’
China now ranks Hong Kong’s importance behind Shenzhen.
