At Least 6000 Citizens Outside Detention Center to Support Arrested Protesters; Letter from the Arrested Moved the Public

During the rally in front of Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre on December 20, one district council member-elect read out a letter from a group of arrested protesters.

Some of the arrested are currently out on bail, while some still being detained.  The letter mentions how the arrested would sit by the iron-barred windows helplessly, worrying about the bleak future, their burdened families and friends. It is to be noted that the number of arrested protesters rose to over 6000 at the moment.  The "white terror" they experience each day is simply unimaginable to outsiders. Therefore, they would like to convey 3 important messages to Hongkongers.

1. Apply and participate in juries proactively.

2. Each person send a letter to Chief Secretary Cheung Kin-chung, demanding for the establishment of a sunset clause to reduce the sentences of the arrested.

3. Persist in the 5 demands while monitoring the government closely.

Even though the slight victories gained in the recent district council election and the passing of the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act in the U.S. had brought a taste of sweetness in their bitter detainment, the road is still long. That is the reason for the arrested to stay strong and charge on.

Lastly, the letter cites a famous quote from the movie Rocky, “It ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward!  That’s how winning is done!”

After reading the letter, the district council member-elect urges everyone to take part in their own neighbourhood to help create a better society.

“If you think the current situation in Hong Kong is unjust, please do not wish for some hero to step up for you.  You can be the heroes!  Whether you are resisting against the unjust system or supporting our brothers and sisters detained in the building behind us, do what you can in your own ideas, resources and methods!  Keep fighting together in this movement!”

The district council member-elect calls for citizens to participate in district council meetings to bring their concerns in discussions as issues related to the movement would be brought up starting from this coming January.

The People's Liberation Army suspected to refuse the landing of a malfunctioning jet in Hong Kong

Xi Jinping visited Macau for three consecutive days. The whole city was beleaguered and heavily-guarded as if she was under the "martial law".

Apple Daily received news that a private jet flying from Japan to Indonesia on December 18 had encountered malfunction while passing by the airspace of Hong Kong. A priority landing request was sent to Hong Kong's Civil Aviation Department but was rejected.

After circling for around 30 minures, it had to change the landing airport to the Philippines.

It was understood that the landing request was rejected by China's People's Liberation Army (PLA). The private jet was to maintain a decent distance of 100 kilometers from Macao. During circling, the PLA sent two military planes to intercept it, spranging up dangers all around. Civil Aviation Department also acknowledged that there was an aircraft requested to land in Hong Kong which later had to land in the Philippines. The Department did not explain further for the exact reason. Meanwhile, the People's Liberation Army stationed in Hong Kong did not respond to this inquiry.

District Council Members-Elect Urge HongKongers to Never Forget and Help Change Our Society for the Better

On Decenber 21 outside the Lai Chi Kok detention center, at least 6000 citizens gathered to show support for the detainees. In the ongoing pro-democracy movement, over 6000 people have been arrested by the police.

During the rally, a district council member-elect spoke of the bullet that fired into the chest of a youngster in her district Tsuen Wan on October 1st.  She mentioned that no Hongkonger would ever forget this gunshot:

“Political liquidation is beginning to creep into our lives, but let’s not forget that we also have a score to settle with this regime!  July 21, no police anywhere!  August 31, beaten to death!  October 1, murdered by gunshot!  We shall pursue until all police officers were accounted for their brutality!  This is the best way to support our arrested brothers and sisters!  Hongkongers, we shall never forget!”

Hongkongers in New York Protest Outside HSBC Headquarters, Condemning the Bank's Aid in Political Persecution

A group of Hongkongers in the United States protested in front of the #HSBC US headquarters on Dec 20, 2020 despite the cold weather.

The participating citizens criticised HSBC for freezing the accounts of pro-democracy dissidents in Hong Kong as requested by the Hong Kong government and Hong Kong Police Force. It was worried that with the assistance of financial institutions, the basic rights of Hongkongers will be further infringed.

The protest was organised by two groups #Lausan and #LionRockCafe. The New York Committee for Human Rights in Philippines also sent a representative to give a speech.Former Secretary General of the Hong Kong Federation of Students Alex Chow showed up for support.

The protest brought attentionto the accounts of former lawmaker Ted Hui and his family, the Good Neighbour North District Church, its head pastor Chan Hoi-hing and his wife.

Lausan spokesperson suggested that HSBC participated in the political persecution in Hong Kong, and this action not only helped the Hong Kong government to retaliate at pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong; freezing the church’s bank account also directly affected the church’s service to help those in need.
