Police pushed the cordon forward and removed everyone from Chater Garden, journalists and passers-by alike.

Citizens who have gathered turned on their phones' flashlight to beam the "three short, three long" pattern, signaling "SOS" in morse code, all while the protest anthem "Glory to Hong Kong" played in the background.

Citizens Join Protest Right After Knocking Off

Thousands of citizens, fresh off work and from all walks of life, poured into the streets of Central, chanting slogans like “Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of Our Times”.

Some waved the Hong Kong Independence flag while some brought along the Colonial Hong Kong Flag. Many others held candles, as a tribute to the victims of the Tiananmen Square Massacre on June 4, 1989. The whole group of them were seen marching peacefully towards Charter Garden.

Police Points Weapons at Journalists as they Arrest Citizens

Riot police seize civilians violently and intimidate reporters on the street

A large group of riot police suddenly charged towards a man in grey t-shirt while yelling at him, “are you participating in this illegal assembly?”

The officers were extremely impolite. They flashed torchlight, shouted for reporters to stay on the pedestrian road while hitting the shields. Police removed the man's surgical mask violently.

Police Disperse Reporters with Rage

Reporters at Central were dispersed by emotionally turbulent riot police. Two officers shouted and cursed at the reporters as they shouted at the crowd of reporters to move forward. They were extremely hostile and were noticeably reacting out of their emotions.

Meanwhile, a female citizen clamoured at the police, accusing them of “committing atrocities” and “losing their humanity.”

A large number of citizens were pushed into very tight sidewalk near World-Wide House, towards Sheung Wan.

Riot police officers as well as officers from the Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) suddenly pushed towards this group of citizens at an increasing speed.

An officer suddenly yelled out a reporter's name, and proceeded on to stop and search several others. The police officers were extremely hostile and antagonistic.

Reporters barred from entering metro station to cover police operation

Waving their batons and pepper guns, a team of riot police charged towards protesters walking down the metro station. While reporters wanted to follow the officers, they were barred outside the metro station, apparently deprived of their rights to report the happenings inside the station.

Editor's Note: An uncanny comparison could be drawn between today's operation and the operation on 31 August in Prince Edward Station.
