Shopper fined by police for violating "social distancing guidelines" despite shopping by himself

Mr. Yeung, a passer-by who was fined HK$2000 for "violating social distancing rules", tried to get an explanation from the police, to no avail. A policewoman threatened him, yelling at him and telling him to go to court if he felt he was treated unjustly.

Mr. Yeung explained to journalists that he was shopping alone in Mong Kok and was on his way to the bus station back home, when police suddenly cordoned off the street he was in. He was stopped and searched, and issued a HK$2000 fine for "gathering with others in violation of social distancing guidelines". Mr. Yeung showed the police his shopping receipts and explained that he was by himself, but police rejected his argument.

Reporter: When did you arrive today and why did you come?

Tsang: I arrived at around 6:30pm. I first heard from a colleague that there were police cars in Tsim Sha Tsui, so I came down to take a look.

When I arrived at around 6:00pm, I saw riot police assembled near Golden Hill Commercial Building on Argyle Street. I walked around to observe.

Just now near Good Hope Building, the headquarter of HKPTU [a pro-democracy teachers' union], a police officer talked to me and another District Councilor Lau Siu-kwun about the situation and if there was any inappropriate behaviour. A HKPF Media Liaison Cadre member, who should clarify the situation and clear misunderstandings, told us that District Councilors are not citizens and therefore do not have the right to stay. Passers-by were shocked by the statement and protested, and that officer left.

I think the discontent of passers-by was caused by the arrival of the police. Nothing would have happened if they didn't show up. There were also objects being thrown from above. The situation was far fromideal.

When it was getting darker, 6 to 7 police cars stood by at Nathan Road. They turned off the lights inside the car, but they forgot about the reflective part on their helmets, which made it even more obviously how many officers there were.

Reporter: Do you think the incidents tonight are related to the election of the LegCo House Committee Chair today?

Tsang: I don't think they are closely related, but it is possible that some citizens took it to the streets because of the violence in the LegCo system. During the LegCo meeting today, you can feel the anger and uneasiness of the ordinary citizens watching the livestream on RTHK.

Cup Tossed From Height, Almost Hits Bystander

23:30 | Mongkok
A cup of herbal tea was thrown from one of the apartments from above at Lady's Market, almost hitting a man in white. He was furious and shouted towards the direction where the cup came from. "It is very dangerous to throw object from heights!”

This was not the first time objects were thrown from above.

Previously, eggs were also pelted from above at Nelson Street.

Police's 'Hand-held Tape' Floats Around, No Clear Demarcation of Where Cordon Is

There were some clashes between the reporters and the police. The police officers were seen nudging the reporters back with their hands. The orange plastic tapes that were supposed to demarcate the cordon was 'mobile'. As the police were holding the tapes with their hands while on the move, it was never clear where exactly the cordon was.

The police were also seen using alot of force while they were pushing citizens and reporters away, nearly causing some of them to trip and fall.

At the corner of Sincere House at Nelson Street, the police also seen having an argument with the reporters.
