Old Lady, “I’m So Worried About Young People That I'm Coming Out Myself and I Hope More People Would Support Them.”

The Christmas holiday ended, with citizens going back to work again today. Some netizens launched the ‘Kwai Chung Sing with You at Lunch’ activity this afternoon where they chanted slogans, sang and marched inside the KCC Kowloon Commerce Centre as a mean to continue fighting for the five demands. An old woman holding a cane participated in the march and was accompanied by some citizens. She said that she was really worried about the young people, and so she came out to participate in the activities and hoped that more people would support them.

Assailants of Yuen Long 7.21 Attack trialed in Court but Police-thug collusion Continues in Kwai Chung

On July 21, 2019, over 100 white-clad assailants attacked citizens indiscriminately at the concourse of Yuen Long West Rail Station and on the streets if Yuen Long, when the police reportedly turned a blind eye to it.

7 of the assailants were charged with rioting and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm, one of whom was brought for trial on January 7, 2020 in the Fanling Magistrates' Court.

A group of pro-establishment supporters came to show their support, holding out banners claining pro-democracy lawmaker Lam Cheuk-ting as the culprit of the incident. Some banners read “arrest the guilty Lam Chuek-ting”, “Lam Cheuk-ting incited panic and provoked the white-clad to break the law”.

Ms Lee, spokesperson of the group argued, “it is not an offence for Yuen Long residents to guard their home.” Despite their vical support outside the court, none of them actually attended the court hearing and some even left before the trial commenced.

In Kwai Chung, a similar incident took place early in the morning on January 8, when around 40 to 50 assailants armed with paint shovels, sticks and telescopic sticks, barged into Lei Muk Shue Estate area and clashed with residents. It was said that at least one resident was injured. District Councilors, Wong Ka-wah and Sumly Chan Yuen-Sum were deeply concerned.

Riot police was called on to the scene; however, instead of trying to mediate, police officers separated the residents and the assailants with an intention to allow the latter to destroy the Lennon wall. Seen as siding with the assailants, police officers even stopped taxi and assisted the assailants to leave the scene, which was likely to be another showcase of double standard in police enforcement.

Some bystanders also pointed out that the assailants look similar to those pro-police supporters active in Tsuen Wan and Shatin areas. It was suspected that they could be hired to carry out “dirty works” such like cleaning up Lennon Walls for the police.

Residents stayed after the rally ended. Riot police deployed with several EU cars nearby. Riot Police also carried warning flags.

Some residents shouted to riot police: “Leave! you are not welcome here!”, “I recognised you as I saw you 40 years ago when I was still young!” “Didn’t you disallow people from wearing masks before?”. A teenager shouted, “Have you ever seen righteous people in masks?” (This question was frequently being asked by police during the anti-extradition movement).
