While Pharmacies Stock Up and Speculate, Bedding Shop Procures Mask for Neighbourhood in Sheung Shui
There is a shortage of mask supplies in Hong Kong. Some pharmacies were criticized for stocking up, raising prices of masks and making a fortune from speculation.
A bedding shop in Sheung Shui Choi Yuen Estate attempted to ordered masks for sale to ease the shortage in neighbouring community. The first 200 people each can buy 1 box at HK$70.
The first shopper said that he has lined up overnight since 8pm the night before. Another one queued up with a baby as early as 2 am in the morning. The shop operators distributed tokens to those in the line at 7:30 am for them to pick up their masks at 10:30 am.
The shop owner also gave away water and soya drinks to shoppers in the morning. The scene was very warm and touching.
