Indiscriminate round-up of the citizen protestors
Indiscriminate round-up of the citizen protestors led to their being lumped together by the press, as the riot police demanded them to walk onto car roads. Some citizens entered into an argument when a protestor was dragged to the other side of the road by a middle-aged man. ā€œYou should respect yourself!ā€ the man shouted, to which the protestors replied, ā€œYou are the one disgracing yourself!ā€

Meanwhile, the police used torches with strong beams on the crowds. Despite the peacefulness and lawfulness of the march, the riot police demanded them to leave and announced they would carry out random stop-and-search on them.

4th Anniversary of the Fishball Revolution

The world belongs to all
But itā€™s yours, who dwells the present, after all.

Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of Our Times.
Lest we forget February 9,
the 4th anniversary of the Fishball Revolution.

Editor's note:
The Fishball Revolution is a major social movement after the 2014 Umbrella Revolution. Traditionally, the Chinese New Year holidays attracts many unlicensed hawkers to sell street foods and other products at Mong Kok, in places like Sai Yeung Choi Street and Kweilin Street, which is a crucial element of Hong Kong culture. With the pro-establishment camp controlled district council passing motions of zero tolerance towards hawkers and the FEHD conducting surprise inspections and confiscations, against convention and demands from grassroots organizations, the joyous scene turned into an anti-government protest, as an act of defiance towards the governmentā€™s philistinism to local culture.

New Preventive Measures Prone to Loopholes, Due to Overreliance on Self-Imposed Measures

The effectiveness of the ā€œ14-day compulsory quarantineā€ in curbing transmission of the deadly Coronavirus in Hong Kong has been severely questioned, as the only requirements for people in quarantines are to wear a surgical mask when going out; to pay attention to body temperature and to answer random interview phone calls. There are no mention of staying in isolation for 14 days, nor "mandatory quarantine" or "quarantine" at all.

The Director of the Centre for Infections and Infectious Diseases of the University of Hong Kong, Dr Ho Pak-leung, pointed out that the latest preventive measures announced by Carrie Lam administration were falling far behind many other international cities. The compulsory quarantine was a self-imposed measure and relied heavily on travelersā€™ self-discipline. Besides, penalties were vague and lenient, which could hardly deter those who willfully hide their travel history and coronavirus-related medical conditions.
