At Least 198 Cases and 3 Deaths in China

[Editor's note: Starting from 21 Jan, flight passengers from Wuhan, China have to fill in a compulsory health declaration upon entry to Hong Kong]

The novel coronavirus has infected 198 in China, causing 3 deaths as of 20 Jan. 170 patients are still staying in hospital for treatment and 35 (20%) of them are in critical condition.

The infection has spreaded outside Wuhan, 2 cases are reported in Beijing and 1 is reported in Shenzhen.

Cases were found overseas as well, there are total 3 cases in Japan and Thailand. Plus, there's is a new confirmed case in South Korea. The patient has been quarantined since the arrival at Icheon Airport.

Zhong Nan-san, team leader of the high-level expert group of the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, said that the new type of coronavirus can certainly be transmitted from people to people.

It has been confirmed that one patient with novel coronavirus in China has infected 14 medical staff.

Chinese Student diagnosed with pneumonia continued to reside in dormitory; Question Over the Transparency of University Management

According to a committee member of Baptist University Student Union on January 20, a student from China residing on 15/F of North Wing Student Dormitory was diagnosed with pneumonia after seeking medical treatment in Shenzhen a few days ago. Although it was not confirmed to be Wuhan pneumonia, the student is now undergoing a rapid test for the new coronavirus. In the meantime, he continued to stayin dormitory.

It was said that the incident has been followed up by dormitory officer who declined to provide further details.

As of HKT00:20 on January 21, the said Chinese student claimed in a whatsapp group that they had neither been to Wuhan in China nor infected with the novel coronavirus according to the diagnosis by Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Hong Kong.

Insofar the University has not yet responded to the incident.

#Coronavirus: China to halt all transport out of Wuhan as death toll reaches 17

//Chinese authorities will suspend all outbound transport from Wuhan, the city at the centre of an outbreak of the mysterious Sars-like coronavirus, which has so far killed 17 people.

Admission of 35 New Patients with Respiratory Diseases Symptoms; HK Governnent Finally Requires Express Rail Link Passengers to Fill Health Declaration

At noon on January 23, public hospitals in Hong Kong had reported to the Department of Health (DH) the admission of 35 patients: 12 male and 23 female, aged five months to 86 years.

Acting Chief Executive Matthew Cheung announced on Thursday that all passengers who travel to Hong Kong via high speed rail will be required to fill in a health declaration form upon arrival at West Kowloon starting on Friday.

Moreover, the New Year Celebrations, including Cathay Pacific’s International Chinese New Year Carnival, and the Lunar New Year Football Cup – will be cancelled as a health precaution.
