Jinan University Suspected to Abuse Students' Information for Votes: Faculty Requires HK Students to Vote Pro-Beijing camp
Hong Kong students in universities in China have became targets for Pro-Beijing camp votes in the current District Council election. Apple Daily have received reports from Hong Kong students studying in Jinan University, Guangzhou, which stated that multiple Hong Kong students were required to have a private meeting with the faculty staff members or counselors.
During the meeting, the school's representative was able to state the student's electoral district, the pro-Beijing candidate in the district, and requested the student to vote for that candidate. The school would also provide private buses for the students to return to Hong Kong to vote. Students questioned whether if this was legal, but were unable to seek for assistance due to the differences in legal systems between China and Hong Kong.
C, a Hong Kong student in Jinan University, suspected that the school abused their private informaton for votes, as they were able to state students' electoral districts clearly. "They seemed to have reveived orders to tell students to vote for the Pro-Beijing camp, even if the student is not eligible to vote."
