Tonight marks one month since the "Yuen Long Nightmare", during which citizens were randomly attacked by armed men in white shirts in the evening of July 21st. Netizens organised a sit-in rally at Yuen Long MTR Station to protest against the Governmentā€™s failure to protect citizens and its alleged collusion with the mobs. The sit down protest is scheduled to be at 7pm to 11pm tonight.

In addition, pro-democracy LEGCO members are holding a film screening event at the open area outisde Yuen Long Station Exit G1 from 6pm to 11pm. Similar to the sit-down rally, it is themed ā€œNever Forget 7.21 Yuen Long Nightmareā€. The event welcomes the public to speak and share their thoughts.

The string of attacks referred to as the Yuen Long Nightmare began with a mob of white-shirted men attacking citizens in black shirts on the streets of Yuen Long. At around 10.30pm, about 100 of the armed white-shirts entered the MTR station, some even went into the trains and platform area, and attacked passengers indiscriminately. During the attack, MTR kept the train from departing for half an hour, and no MTR staff nor police attempted to deescalate the attack. 45 citizens were reported injured, with 1 in critical condition and 5 in serious condition. 28 men were arrested, but so far no charges have been made. On the other hand, various pro-Beijing figures had been recorded on video encouraging violence against black-shirt protesters, as well as thanking white-shirts on the streets soon after they had made their attacks. The Police is perceived to have made very little effort to maintain the peace that night, refusing to file police reports, and even claiming that neither side was holding offensive weapons.

ā€œThe bill is deadā€, following the non-legal binding announcement made by HK Chief Executive Carrie Lam on the extradition bill, the city is dying too. HKSAR Government refuses to set up an independent commission of inquiry to look into the saga. In response to the voices of people, HK police collude with triads to beat citizens indiscriminately (both peaceful protestors and non-protestors). A young girl, who volunteered herself to be a first-aider in a peaceful protest on 11 Aug 2019, was shot in the right eye by the police causing permanent vision loss.

This kind of physical and psychological violence routinely happens in Hong Kong now. The number of laws and regulations being breached by the so called law enforcement body in the past 2 months is just uncountable. The authority is creating violence every day and using brutality to rule the city.

The universal values that everyone on Earth embraces: freedom, justice, rule of law... are now at stake in Hong Kong. Our eyes can be taken, but truth canā€™t be.

Hong Kongā€™s Humanitarian Hellfire: the Outcry of the ā€œWaterā€ amid Police Brutality and Moral Corruption

At the Special Citizensā€™ Press Conference today, the speakers made responses to the recent incidents including lynching of an elderly under arrest by Police Officers at the Northern District Hospital and the doubtful reactions by the Police for the wounding case in Tsueng Kwan O. Nonetheless, the Citizensā€™ Press Conference called for the action of the Department of Justice and Hong Kong Police Action to demonstrate respect to the rule of law by pressing charges to the culprits upon the occasion of the day a month after the after the indiscriminate terrorist attacks in Yuen Long on the 21th of July.

Our speaker Mr Chan was particularly unsettled by how ā€˜law enforcement twists the law to whitewash its own misdeedsā€™ in these circumstances. For the Northern Disctrict Hospital incident: the officers were only charged for only ā€˜assaultā€™ but not ā€˜tortureā€™, without regard to both the local law and international protocols. Chan implicated the importance of an independent investigation committee instead of the existing Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC) in much needed, when cases after cases of police officers abusing their power and are yet let off have become the norm today. He mocked the Policeā€™s slogan ā€œWe Serve With Pride And Careā€ and their being ā€˜Asiaā€™s finestā€™, and that their motto has been completely and disgracefully dismantled by their actions since June, for their crimes are not ā€˜just isolated incidentsā€™ but happen ā€˜every dayā€™ ā€˜for the world to seeā€™.

Mr Chan also protested the selective law enforcement by the Police by describing how ā€˜the police officers at the scene conducted investigation sloppily, and failed to take notes or request CCTV footages to aid the processā€™. He questioned how ā€˜each of these officers pcoket at least USD$ 3,000 per month from taxpayers, while being totally incompetent when duty calls, yet astoundingly efficient when it comes to escorting pro-China demonstrators to safety when they clashed with pro-democracy protestorsā€™. As ā€˜today marks as the day a month after the indiscriminate terrorist attacks in Yuen Long on the 21th of Julyā€™, ā€˜but no charges have been placed to date, although this was because the responsibility of prosecution rests on the Department of Justice, not the Police Force according to what have mentioned at the press conferenceā€™. These examples of ā€˜selective law enforcement and the tendency of different government departments passing the buck between each other are no signs of an efficient administration that respects the Rule of Law, and yet, sadly, they are just the tip of the icebergā€™.

Mr Chan concludes by reiterating that the Hong Kong Government ā€˜must be held liable for the policeā€™s transgressions alongside with the prevalence of triad terrorā€™. He also emphasised that ā€˜the people would rather break out of silence to defend our city than perish with it in silence... and shall never bow to an authoritarian regimeā€™ He hoped on behalf of the many that the rest of the world will ā€˜stand with us in our fight for true freedom and humanityā€™.

External Affairs Executive of City U Student Association urges the principal, Way Kuo, to start discussions / Actions may escalate

This afternoon, Yu, a student and the External Affairs Executive of the student association of the City University of Hong Kong, gathered with other students outside the Cheng Yick-chi Building of CityU to urge the principal, Way Kuo, to start a discussion.

Yu said that he does not rule out the possibility of escalated actions. He said that although he is worried that the university may report to the police, he cannot let fear stop him from doing what is right. Also, he is dissatisfied as the school arranged a lot of security guards at the door, commenting it symbolises that the University is opposing to whatever side the students are on.

[1850] In Admiralty, about 50 people petitioned at the British Consulate General in Hong Kong to request the British government to rescue Simon Man Kit Cheng, a staff member of the British Consulate General who is administratively detained by the Chinese government. In silence, the demonstrators held the poster stating ā€œMissing Simon Chengā€ and the flag of "England expects that every man will do his duty.ā€

The petitionerā€™s representative met with the Deputy Consulate General and understands that the embassies of the UK in Beijing, Hong Kong and Guangzhou will attempt to determine the current location of Simon Man Kit Cheng. However, similar to the past situations when the British citizens or nationals were subject to administrative detention by the Chinese government, it is difficult to confirm the information due to restrictions set by the Chinese authorities. At present, it can merely ensure that Simon Cheng has enough toiletries to maintain his hygiene during the detention.
