[Oct 12: 'Grand Party of Masks']

Voices of Hongkongers:
I have the rights to wear masks,' 'Disband the Police, Right Now'

Netizens called for a 'Grand Party of Masks' at the atrium of Sha Tin New Town Plaza to protest against the government's forceful enacting of the Anti-Mask Law through the Emergency Regulations Ordinance (Emergency Law).

Over 300 citizens gathered at different floors of the atrium, chanting the slogans 'I have the rights to wear masks,' 'Disband the Police, Right Now'.

Some of them wore masks. A mother brought her 5 year-old son along with a mask of Antman (see photo)

4 youngsters in masks played 'Glory to Hong Kong' and 'Do you Hear the Hong Kong People Sing'. One of them performed with a saxophone.

People also mourned in silence for 2 minutes in remembrance of all the deceased protesters.

Meanwhile, the shops in the mall remained open.

It is a Sign of Weakness and Fear: Carrie Lam ditches meeting with US Senator Ted Cruz

After Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam ditched their closed-door meeting, Ted Cruz, a Republican senator from Texas, said, “She [Lam] seems to misunderstand how free speech operates, and also how freedom of the press operates."

"Ms. Lam's cancelling the meeting is not a sign of strength. It's a sign of weakness. It's a sign of fear of the protesters in the streets of Hong Kong."

Voices of Hongkongers: "Nobody can stay out of this, not even the children. We come out to fight for their future"

Ms. Lam brought her 3 year-old daughter to the Anti-Emergency Law march today (Oct 12). She said that she did not join the previous protests as the police refused to issue the 'Letter of No Objection'.

"They will never issue it [the letter of no objection] again; however, if we are deterred from protesting because of that, the crowd will dwindle from now on."

Ms Lam believed that as the police do not approve any protest anyway, it is better to come out rather than staying at home.

She said that over the past four months she “grew more angry and more heartbroken than ever.' She hoped the children would not forget the movement and always remember its cause.

"Nobody can stay out of this, not even the children. We come out to fight for their future."

Political oppression, White Terror, Police Violence ... are "precisely the reason why we should come out"

Ms. Lam brought her 3 year-old daughter to the Anti-Emergency Law march today (Oct 12).

When asked if she is worried about the police-protester clash, Ms Lam said it is natural to be worried and therefore she did not wear black, hoping that the police would not stop or search her.

She mentioned that earlier in Tsueng Kwan O police arrested a couple and left the couple's son alone crying on the street.

"Every family came out in a group of three, at least. The police were just using excuses to oppress us and scare us. This is precisely the reason why we should come out. This will only unite us even more!"
