Confirmed by multiple sources, CBR.com quoted a passage from puck.news stating the Chinese authority requested shots of the Statue of Liberty in the latest Spiderman film No Way Home be removed.
China's request was allegedly caused by the multiple shots of the main character #TomHolland standing on top of the crown of the Statue of Liberty. According to China, it was a showcase of ‘American patriotism’. SONY allegedly refused such request immediately.
Doubtlessly, losing the Chinese market did not affect the box office of this movie much, as the Spideman film was ranked the sixth highest-selling movie in the film industry.
Based on multiple sources, the latest Doctor Strange movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, would also not be shown in China because of the appearance of ‘The Epoch Times’ in the movie. If this is the case, #DoctorStrange would be the sixth #Marvel movie that was censored by China, consecutively.
[The other five were: Black Widow, Eternals, Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home]
Nonetheless, the latest Doctor Strange movie will still be aired in Hong Kong.

A Hong Kong public broadcaster, Radio & Television Hong Kong (#RTHK), announced on May 10 that it is set to streamline its consultation framework.
Under the new framework, the advisory panel on programme standards that comprised several members of pro-democracy parties have ceased operation since April 2022. However, panellists from the pro-establishment camp can be retained.
Although Tik Chi-yuen, a member of the Advisory Panel, told the reporters that he was surprised by the RTHK's action, he defended it and said that it doesn't mean RTHK is not listening to public opinion.
Another member Fung Ying-him, a representative of Our Hong Kong Foundation supporting the new framework, said such an arrangement was "fine", as the Advisory Panel did not have an active role, but only met once a year.

Hong Kong's Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data is considering invoking regulations to restrict access to #Telegram, a popular social media platform it found to be "rampant" with doxxing.
Such an action, if taken, is likely to stoke fears that the #NationalSecurityLaw will further encroach on civil liberties, as part of a continuing effort by Beijing to exert its influence over the city.
It’s unclear how the privacy watchdog intends to carry out such an action. The authorities may choose to fully block public access, or remove the app from the city’s stores.
Francis Fong Po-kiu, honorary president of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation, noted that it is technically difficult to ban public access of an internet platform.
Fong cited Russia's attempt to sanction Telegram in 2018 by blocking its IP addresses, which failed because IP addresses of such platforms are constantly changing. The action caused collateral damage, however, accidentally taking down unrelated websites and causing disruptions. Russia ultimately gave up and unblocked the app in 2020.
Telegram channels are still widely used in Hong Kong to help residents stay up-to-date on court cases involving pro-democracy activists, a means for 2019 anti-government protest supporters to stay connected amid a crackdown on dissent by the authorities.

June 4th 2022 marks the 33 year-mark of the Tiananmen Massacre in Beijing, where the Chinese Communist Party (#CCP) government brutally cracked down pro-democracy civilians in 1989.
Commemorative events such as candlelight vigil had been annually held in Hong Kong until the enforcement of the #NationalSecurityLaw in 2020.
Beijing's office claimed that the commemorative activities in Hong Kong were organized by "a small fraction of anti-China people with hostility towards the Chinese government". According to CCP, there is "no need to remember June 4th".
On June 4, 2022, the US consulate and the Australia consulate in Hong Kong posted the Pillar of Shame and a candlelight image on their social media platform respectively, in commemoration of the victims of the 1989 June 4th Tiananmen Massacre. The Polish Consulate-general fearured candles in their social media post. Both the US consulate-general and the #EuropeanUnion office in Hong Kong lit candles on their windows.

The live stream of a popular Chinese KOL called Austin Li was censored in China on June 3, 2022. His Internet show was suspended reportedly due to the showcase of a cake that resembled a military tank on the eve of June 4.
On June 4, 1989, the Chinese Communist Party (#CCP) government sent troops and tanks to "clear" the pro-democracy protest at #TiananmenSquare, killing and wounding many civilians.

Hong Kong Government Censors its Own $31m Anti-ELAB Movement Report in light of National Security Concerns
The Hong Kong SAR Government's Policy Innovation and Co-ordination Office (#PICO) had allocated $31 million HKD to 79 research studies regarding the 2019 #AntiELAB movement.
The research topics included public sentiments towards violence or the strategy of "mutual destruction" (攬炒, literally "burn with us"), public participation during the government's policy-making process, culture, values, ethnic identity, and so on.
All 79 studies have been concluded, but their results have yet to be published to PICO's website, contrary to the Office's established practices.
Responding to Economic Journal's inquiry, PICO stated that the government is compiling the results into a report; however, it will be for internal reference only, and the government has no plans to make it available to the public.
The decision was allegedly due to legal risks regarding certain content in the report. A researcher who participated in the studies noted that the topics were determined before the #NationalSecurityLaw was enacted, and they covered a relatively wide range of subject matter. The government may be concerned of the National Security Law's implications when it decided not to publicize the report.

The Education Bureau (#EDB) in Hong Kong has been promoting values education in recent years, and it is rating the "National identity" and "law-abiding" as one of the most important values.
It is also found that some learning and teaching resources under the "Human Rights Education" category have been chopped with the latest website update, including group projects to collect press clippings for demonstrations, studying "why protesters have their demands", etc.
As the 33rd anniversary of the June Fourth Incident approaches, the timing of this update becomes sensitive, though the Education Bureau said yesterday that the recent update "has nothing to do with the June Fourth Incident, so there's no need to make unnecessary speculations".
In the Education Bureau's original framework, students are expected to "respect human rights". These wordings were removed in the pilot version of the "Values Education Curriculum Framework" launched last year.
In addition, the recommendation to students to "cherish freedom and respect the freedom of others" through the #RTHK programme "City Forum" was also removed.
A primary school principal, who did not wish to be named, said she felt helpless about the change in the teaching resources. She said that despite the clear new content, some of the removed items should be available for teaching, but becoming a grey area after the #NationalSecurityLaw came into effect. She worried that teaching such materials might touch on sensitive topics and lead to "consequences".
"For example, teachers should have taught the June 4 incident on June 4, but now they feel that they could no longer teach it under the National Security Law. There's a lot of pressure on the schools and the teachers, that we don't know if anyone would complain about what we teach to the authority," she said.

#RFA interviewed a few Taiwanese on the 25th anniversary of the change of Hong Kong's sovereignty.
Many people analogise "Today's Hong Kong, Tomorrow's Taiwan" in recent years. One of the interviewees mentioned the change in Hong Kong in these 25 years -- Hong Kong was very vigorous in the media and the publishing industries. She mentioned that Taiwanese sought Hong Kong publishers to produce their "blacklisted books" during the white terror era, but now it is the opposite. She said the so-called unchsnging state is a lie for the regime to deceive people.

China's WPS Office Software Accused of #Censorship and Lockup Users' Files
#WPSOffice, a Microsoft Office-like software released by China's company #Kingsoft, has recently been exposed for allegedly censoring content and locking users' files for sensitive words, prompting criticism.
Users have reported that WPS Office actively detects the contents of documents stored on computer drives and in the cloud. A file will be locked whenever sensitive words are found, which would be released only if the user files official complaints to the developer. The software locked a novel of more than 1 million words in one case. The author said the pieces have never been shared with anyone, questioning whether the WPS official had been peeking it without permission.
The official response from WPS was that the file contained illegal links, which is why it was banned, stressing that the user's privacy always comes first.
However, the WPS statement seems to make matters worse, and the general public is not at all convinced, with some questioning, " How do you know the document has an illegal link? Only if you peek at it!"
