Hong Kong Police Officers Arrested in Drug Case
A police sergeant was arrested at a hotel in the early hours of May 7. He was found with 2kg of methamphetamine ("Ice") and was one of the detectives responsible for an earlier raid where five arrests were made over a 296-kilogramme haul worth some HK$158 million on the Tuesday before.
Late on May 7, a second police officer, aged 37, was arrested in Shek Kip Mei. 23kg of Ice was found in his flat.
On May 8, two more police officers, aged 31 and 36, had been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a methamphetamine case. The two were held on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Initial investigations suggest that the cases involving the two officers were linked to the biggest ever seizure of methamphetamine on record at an empty shop in Jordan.

In the early morning of May 8, about 20 people armed with knives, hammers and shovels arrived in Lok Fu saying they would take down the "Lennon Wall" and began chasing civilians along Fu Mei Street.
Three Wong Tai Sin district councillors ā Carmen Lau, Jay Cheng, and Steve Leung ā posted on Facebook that the police did not arrest any attackers and let most of them leave.
Two women who were among the attackers claimed to themselves victims. One accused the resident of possessing the assailants' weapon while one claimed to have injured.

At the controversial House Committee meeting in the Legislative Council on May 8, the pro-Beijing faction showed how they took in opinion that was favourable to the Establishment and refused to listen to different opinions.
Under these circumstances, the pro-Beijing fraction quoted barristers Benjamin Yu and Jenkin Suen's opinion that DAB chairperson Starry Lee had the right to preside over the afternoon meeting.
Pro-Beijing lawmaker Michael Luk Chung-hung of The Federation of Trade Unions pointed out that barrister Philip Dykes and legal professor Johannes Chan Man Mun are the "trump cards" of the pro democratic faction. Luk claimed their positions and answers made discussion meaningless. Beijing loyalist Junius Ho Kwan-yiu added that the internal meeting should be based on Yu's opinion, "Because he is a lot brighter than Philip Dykes."

In the past it would have been common to see protests during the #ChiefExecutive Election in Hong Kong.
It is, however, not the case anymore, as almost all the pro-democracy legislators have been jailed, coupled with the reformation of the electoral system.
On the early morning of May 8, 2022, the League of Social Democrats (#LSD), a pro-democracy group, tried to head towards the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center (#HKCEC) to protest; however, their members were stopped and searched by the police in Central Plaza, and were thereby banned from entering HKCEC.
As early as at 7:30am, over 30 policemen, all wearing stabproof vest, were stationed outside the clinic of Family Planning Association of Hong Kong in Wan Chai.
The chairperson of the League of Social Democrats Chan Po-ying comdemned the newly formed government for not tolerating opposing ideas, āDoes #JohnLeeās āStarting a New Chapterā mean banning peaceful petition?ā she asked.
Chan also expressed that Hong Kong is ruled by fear, and that organisations often have to think twice before conducting any activity. She added that the League of Social Democrats understood the ineffectiveness in protesting, but still wished that the community was not silence. She then moved on to encourage organisations in the society to persevere, whilst lamenting over John Leeās ālack of competitorā in his run for Chief Executive, that the pro-establishment camp ādidnāt even try to find him (John Lee) an opponentā, showing how pathetic the society was.
