China supports Hong Kongs universal community testing, by sending mainland personnel onboard

1 August 2020, Wenweipo (a CCP mouthpiece in Hong Kong) reported that the Central Government, upon Hong Kong Government’s request, would send National Health Commission (NHC) and Guangdong Province Wuhan Pneumonia testing personnel to Hong Kong to help the universal community testing for the city’s 7.5 million residents. The Central Government claimed that the testing would be totally free for Hongkongers as China would absorb all the cost. Moreover, it would build another bigger Mobile Cabin Hospital at the AsiaWorld Expo to help Hong Kong fighting against the Wuhan virus.

Mingpao (a Hong Kong newspaper) later reported that, on 4 September, Patrick NIP Tak-kuen, Secretary for Civil Services CLARIFIED that the testing cost would be borne by the Central Government whereas other costs would be taken by Hong Kong Government, including the establishment of sampling centre, medical personnel’s remuneration, logistics and other supplies. However, “the actual amount of those costs would not be disclosed to the Hong Kong people as the amount would be higher after completing the testing”. When being asked, NIP responded to a question of why government implemented a policy without budgeting and financial projection, by saying the testing needed to be executed within a short period of time with multiple costs and it was difficult to disclose such amount to the public at the moment.

Editor’s Notes: By playing with words, this is CCP’s another round of faking to Hongkongers, bearing less than half costs instead of “all the costs” it propagandized; Hong Kong Government official is selecting information to be disclosed, based on his / her own preference but not public interest or consideration.

#Free #JimmyLai" – Campaign for world attention on Hong Kong #HumanRights and Press Freedom

On Chinese New Year’s eve (Jan 31), a series of transatlantic illuminations aiming to draw international attention on China's #authoritarian rule over Hong Kong were seen on the walls of Tower Bridge in London and Chinese Embassy in Washington DC.

Bright white lights reading "Free Jimmy Lai and the Apple 7" of three storey tall were projected onto the walls.

In addition, the illuminations also showed the "Olympics rings in thorns", a portrait of Jimmy Lai and a yellow umbrella, the symbol of the 2014 Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong.

The US-based designer, Robin Bell said his intention was to grab people's attention on Human Rights around the world.

Mark L. Clifford, president of the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong, shared photographs of the illuminations on his Twitter page, calling the upcoming #WinterOlympics in #Beijing " the most shameful Olympics since the 1936 Nazi Olympics in Berlin”.
