Former ambassador: Canada needs to loosen ties with China

Former Canadian ambassador to China interprets the country’s "Wolf Warrior" diplomacy and mindset regarding international affairs.

China, in a fury of how a state as inferior as Canada dares to refuse their demand of releasing Meng, arbitrarily detained the two Canadians. This shows that China has no understanding of judicial independence. Its regime basically measures every aspect of the world with power. It sees any kind of relationship as masters and vassals. Western allies, especially Canada, should start to reappraisal their relationships with China. Instead of saying yes to all of their demands, countries should reduce engagement with China.

Now that the world is distracted by the pandemic, China decides to implement “National Security Law” in Hong Kong to take away people’s rights by denying its agreement with #UK and other friends of Hong Kong. This is another reason why we should be alerted of a world dominated by China.

India-China border conflict as a result of Chinese aggression**

Deadly military clashes between India and China have killed dozens of people along the disputed border in the Himalayas. The conflict, according to an Indian military source, started over a tent built by Chinese soldiers in the territory claimed by India. The construction was subsequently dismantled by Indian troops, thus triggering a forceful response from China and the confrontations.

The tensions between both sides have been escalating in recent months along the disputed border areas, known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Military mobilisation and construction activities have intensified. Analysts suggest that while there is a significant "face-saving" component in the escalating actions taken by both countries, the root cause of the problem still lies in the fundamental disagreement about the demarcation of the border between India and China.

During the coronavirus crisis, China seems to be more eager than ever to demonstrate its strength by being more aggressive towards other countries. China has already gone on the offensive by adopting the 'wolf warrior' diplomacy. In the past few days, we have also seen China intruding the Taiwan airspace and the disputed regions of the South China Sea. Similar confrontations will only be more frequent and severe in the near future.

Barristers in Hong Kong pointed out that the police have to explain why they froze these assets which involves Hui's lifelong savings of several million Hong Kong dollars.

Ted Hui clarified in his Facebook post that all crowdfunding funds are deposited in a lawyer's account, which has nothing to do with his and his family's accounts:

"As for the funds raised in the crowdfunding campaign I initiated last year for private prosecutions against police brutality, they have been deposited in the account of the lawyer's office, and the audit report has been disclosed. The funds have nothing to do with my personal and family's accounts."

Hong Kong Police claimed on December 6 that they were looking into a suspected violation of National Security Law and money laundering, accusing the suspect of embezzling the crowdfunding funds through the bank accounts of the person's relatives. They also accused Hui of colluding with foreign forces to endanger national security.

As Hui said in his Facebook post earlier: "Certainly the #CCP and the SAR government can continue to condemn and accuse me, foreign politicians, and the whole world, but at the same time, the world clearly knows who is representing justice. The "Wolf-Warrior Diplomacy" will only be denounced by the world. As for the freezing of my persona and family's accounts, it is clear that the regime is using economic oppression as political retaliation, and collective punishment against my family members to persecute the opposition."

“Who Is The Wolf? BTW, China Is Not A Lamb”: Tweet from Chinese Embassy Baffles Internet

As China continues flexing its muscles as part of its “wolf warrior diplomacy”, the Chinese Embassy in Ireland posted an enigmatic tweet inspired by Aesop’s fable of the wolf and the lamb. Published on 1 April, it began by asking rhetorically who the wolf was and went on to say that China was not a lamb to the confusion of the Internet. The tweet has since been deleted.

The fable originally tells the story of a lamb running into a wolf at a creek, where the wolf hurls various false charges against the lamb to justify its predation. When the lamb proves its innocence and refutes the accusations, the wolf gives up looking for an excuse and eats it straight away. The lesson is understood to be that there is no point appealing to reason in face of one as wickedly unreasonable as a wolf.

The tweet began with the question “Who is the wolf?” and went on to say that some had accused China of engaging in “wolf warrior diplomacy”. The embassy then noted how in the fable the wolf fabricates charges just so it can eat the lamb. Wrapping up the tweet, it wrote that “The wolf is the wolf, not the lamb” while remarking that “China is not a lamb”.

China’s Foreign Minister #WangYi rejected academic research detailing the abuses, including forced labour and forced sterilisations of women.

#Uighur women who have been detained in the camps have detailed systemic rape, abuse and torture. China has refused to allow independent investigators into the camps and denies any abuses are taking place.

“There is no forced labour in China,” Wang said. “There’s no such thing [as] concentration camps in #Xinjiang.”

“And there’s no such thing as genocide - our European friends know what is genocide,” he said, referring to the Holocaust when Nazi Germany murdered 6 million Jews during World War II.

#Buetikofer, who leads the European Parliament’s China delegation, was one of the politicians sanctioned.

Buetikofer described as reckless Wang’s attempts to use the Holocaust to dismiss claims of crimes against humanity in Xinjiang.

“Wang Yi basically tells us ‘shut up, you shouldn’t talk’.

“The Holocaust should not be used as a diplomatic football for rhetorical gains,” he told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

“The fact of the matter is that it has been precisely because of our wretched history that we have built our democracies and European Union on the basis of adherence to human rights and the rule of law. For us it is an historic obligation.

“If this People’s Republic of China had nothing to hide, they would open up and allow a full independent investigation; no amount of aggressive wolf-warrior diplomacy will obscure the fact that they still have not done so,” he said.//

On Thursday, Ukraine pulled its name off the list of supporting states after Chinese authorities warned Kyiv that they would block a planned shipment of at least 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Ukraine unless it did so, said diplomats from two Western countries. The diplomats spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

Ukraine has agreed to purchase 1.9 million doses of CoronaVac vaccine from China’s Sinovac Biotech. As of early May, Ukraine had received 1.2 million doses, according to Health Minister Maxim Stepanov.

HK Police Arrests 5 Speech Therapists for #Sedition over Publishing Children's Books

On July 22, 2021, police arrested 5 speech therapists in Hong Kong for "publishing sedition material". The two male and three female civilians, aged between 25 and 28 years old, are members of the General Union of Speech Therapists (#GUST).

The Union has published 3 children's books in the "Sheep Village" series over the past 2 years (https://www.guhkst.org/publication). The books are titled "The Guardians of Sheep Village", "The Brave 12 of Sheep Village", "The Cleaners of Sheep Village". Two of the books described the wolf invasion of the sheep village and the forced exile of the 12 brave sheeps. All the stories are set in the fictitious "Sheep Village".

However, the police claimed that the books incite hatred against the Hong Kong government and judiciary, especially among young children.

Scholar: Hongkongers Boo Chinese National Anthem in form of Resistance

Dr Kim-Wah Chung, Deputy of the Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute (#PORI) was recently invited to web media programme titled "In- and Outside the Council".

Chung described how Hongkongers entrusted the emotions from the pro-demicracy protest by cheering slogans like "Keep Fighting, Hong Kong" during the Tokyo Olympics Games.


Chung pointed out that booing the Chinese National Anthem was a misbehaviour in the past but has now become popular.

He said the authorities should "think about the reason behind it", and the responsibilities they bore.

Chung said that the PRC's national sports team performed well in recent years, but he also pointed out that "if a regime tries to cover up something through sports achievement", there no interest to show support for them".

He then used PRC athlete Chen Qingchen who swore a lot during the competition, as an example of the
misbehaviour of the Chinese sportsmen under "wolf warrior position".

Nowadays, the Chinese netizens showing their supports to Chen while publicly denouncing the artists who support Taiwanese sportsmen. Chung described it as "unreasonable".

He believed that the atmosphere in China in recent years has turned many thing in the name of "insulting China", similar to the ban on shouting 'HKers, never give up' as Hong Kong Independent", showing the extreme ethnic emotion. He indicated that the Chinese government more or less enhances this phenomenon, but the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. "It is the expansion of self-consciousness, which is dangerous."

#Brescia Exhibits #Badiucao's Artwork that Mocks Beijing’s #Propaganda

Defying the calls of the Chinese government to cancel an exhibition in a northern Italian city, #Brescia is hosting the first international solo exhibition by the 35-year-old artist, #Badiucao, an exile from China who now lives in Australia.

Displaying a torture instrument such as a rocking chair, dissident artist Badiucao mocks the propaganda of Beijing in this exhibition named “China is (not) near”.

The show denounces political repression in China and the country’s censorship of the origin of #Covid19.

Beijing responded to the exhibition in anger, accusing Badiucao’s works of being “full of anti-Chinese lies” that “jeopardise the friendly relations between China and Italy”. The PRC's embassy in Rome sent a letter to Brescia’s town hall.

Deputy Mayor #LauraCastelletti responded, “None of us in Brescia, neither in the city council nor among the citizens, had the slightest doubt about this exhibition going ahead.”

"Brescia, known for its Roman ruins, has a long tradition of welcoming dissidents, painters and writers, in defence of artistic freedom”, she added.

In an interview, Badiucao, who is nicknamed the Chinese #Banksy said he is “very happy and proud” that the city “had the courage to say ‘no’ to China to defend fundamental rights.”

#China fighter jet intercepts Australian plane - Canberra

// #Australia has accused the pilot of a Chinese fighter jet of carrying out a dangerous manoeuvre near one of its aircraft over the South China Sea.

It says the Chinese aircraft released flares and cut in front of the Australian surveillance plane.

The Chinese jet then released "chaff" - an anti-radar device which includes small pieces of aluminium which entered the Australian plane's engine.

Beijing claims most of the region as its own territory.

But the US, neighbouring countries and others, including Australia, dispute its claim.

In February, Australia accused a Chinese navy ship of shining a military grade laser towards one of its warplanes over the Arafura Sea off northern Australia.
