The Business and Professionals Alliance, a pro-Beijing party said that to counter the threat of various diseases, the SAR government needed a HK$6.5 billion fund to clean up the city targeting rodent and mosquito controls, wet markets upgrades, and repair works for leaking air conditioners.

The party challenged existing control measures in the city being costly and inefficient, and stated that lessons in this regard could be learned from Guangdong, citing the usage of robotics as an example, and Shenzhen in control of rodent infestations.

China Accuses US of the Source of Wuhan Pneumonia

//China's Foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian, in tweets last week in both Mandarin and English, suggested that "patient zero" in the global pandemic may have come from the United States – not the Chinese metropolis of Wuhan.

"It might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan. Be transparent! Make public your data! US owe us an explanation," tweeted Zhao, who is known for his provocative statements on social media.

Scientists suspect that the virus first came to humans at a meat market in Wuhan that butchered exotic animals.

Top Chinese official Yang Jiechi issued a "stern warning to the United States that any scheme to smear China will be doomed to fail", the official Xinhua news agency said in its summary of the call with Pompeo.//

New song “Leader of the people” by the Central Propaganda Department called Xi Jinping as a “helmsman”.
Only Mao Zedong was called “A great helmsman.” by the Chinese Communist Party.

(28 May)The song “Leader of the people” was released by the Chinese government, promoted via a phone app, “Study the motherland” and suggested that the song be sung at meetings of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the National People’s Congress (NPC). The whole MTV is about Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, with picture of Xi from his youth. A songwriter stated he looked back on how tough the path for Xi Jinping leading citizens to achieve the “Chinese dream” and how much contribution of Xi Jinping. He strongly believes Xi Jinping is a good leader.

Since the elimination of term-limits of the General Secretary in 2018, it’s the third song for “Leader of the people”. A new adjective in this song is “helmsman”. In the history of China, using “helmsman” last time to praise the leader was in the cultural revolution. Mao Zedong described as “great teacher, great leader, great command, great helmsman”, which was the “four Great”.

Evident favoritism towards Pro-china Broadcaster in Communications Authority’s Enforcement

The complaint against the RTHK programme, Headliner, a popular satirical show, for "defaming and insulting" Hong Kong Police force was substantiated according to findings from Communications Authority’s investigation.

The Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, which oversees the Authority, said no broadcaster should spread hatred and the Bureau chief, Edward Yau Tang-wah, demanded an immediate review and suspension of the programme.

When it comes to controversial programmes produced by pro-china broadcasters, Hong Kong officials responded differently. A 80-min program about the Hong Kong ptotesds, which was produced by the Chinese Central Television (CCTV), was broadcasted in early June on all of the city’s free and paid TV channels, including TVB News & Finance Channel, NOW Finance Channel and Cable TV paid channel.

The program claimed to "analyse the hidden forces" behind the movement, pointing fingers directly at the “pro-independence” politicians and "foreign interference" for "strategizing and inciting the riots".

The US consulate accused the CCTV program as a “blatant fraudulent misrepresentation” and 377 complaints were received as the Communications Authority admitted.

Charles Mok, Panel Chair on Information Technology and Broadcasting of Legislative Council said “the content of the documentary could be tightened”. He urged the Authority to seriously investigate into the matter.

Surprisingly, CEDB stepped back on this incident and responded conservatively by only highlighting formalities and established complaint handling procedures as their defense.

In 2018, Xi Jinping already mentioned to replace Hong Kong with Hainan Island

(01 Jun)What’s wrong with Hainan’s Economy?
30 November 2018 at 10:45
President Xi Jinping visited Hainan Island at the beginning of the year and announced a series of measures to stimulate its economy, which included establishing the country’s largest free-trade zone in order to attract international investment.

Such an announcement triggered a lot of excitement. Apart from the zone, the Hainan Government also proposed a plan that would allow foreigners to enjoy uncensored internet access upon entering Hainan Province, but the suggestion later ceased to proceed.

Scholars involved in Hainan’s reformation plan told the press that Hainan Province will try the most advanced systems and practises in the world, including learning from Hong Kong and Dubai. In the future it will become China’s delegate and play an important role in boosting the world’s confidence.

Some people are expecting Hainan to become “Bali+Hong Kong” in the near future and are hoping that Hainan will later overtake Hong Kong.

Half a year has passed, has Hainan’s economy managed to make any progress? Statistics can explain everything.

The Bureau of Statistics of Hainan Province has just released Hainan’s economic data of October and it has shocked a lot of people.

The saleable area of houses sold from January to October in 2018 dropped 36% whereas sales revenue fell by 20% in comparison to the same period last year.

Another major source of economic growth, investment in fixed assets, ask dropped an astonishing 14.7%.

Transportation of freight also experienced an economic downturn with a decrease of 2.2%.

In October alone, Hainan Government’s fiscal revenue also showed a rare downward trend: the overall public budget revenue fell by 4.2% compared with the same period last year while the pre-expenditure fell by 3.1%.

As for the major consumer goods, vehicle production experienced a steep drop of 71.2%.

Many are concerned because if the trend persists, Hainan will soon replace the three provinces in Northeast of China and become the province with the slowest economic growth.

What exactly is wrong with Hainan’s economy?

Textbook used in Victorian schools repeats Chinese government propaganda

Among the concerns regarding the textbook is the inclusion of the “nine-dash line” map which shows China claiming most of the South China Sea – a position contested by Australia and numerous othrr countries in the region and challenged by an international tribunal. It is labelled in the book as the “map of China”.

The publishers said that its inclusion was a production error.

On top of this misleading information, the textbook also included portions that repeated Chinese Communist party propaganda.

Chinese State Media Defend China's Detention of the 12 Hongkongers

China’s mouthpiece, Xinhua News Agency, mentioned for the first time on September 25, the 12 Hongkongers who have been detained in Shenzhen, China for more than a month. The article said they were accused of breaching Chinese border controls and that, as there was no extradition treaty between Hong Kong and the mainland, the Chinese government has the power to detain, handle and punish them.

The state news agency slammed pro-democracy lawmakers for seeking to draw foreign help over the incident by framing the matter as a human rights issue. Xinhua News claimed, "the democrats were blatantly exploiting the 12 Hong Kong people and their families for their own benefit, in order to incite hate against the city’s government and China".

"Xinhua News was twisting facts about Hong Kong people’s distrust of Beijing", Hong Kong lawmaker Eddie Chu told Apple Daily. He pointed out that the article failed to answer key questions such as why lawyers have been barred from visiting the 12 detainees, and the lack of evidence to prove that they were really captured in Chinese waters.

Pro-democracy activist Owen Chow, responded on behalf of the families and reiterated that it was the families who sought help from the lawmakers and not the other way round, as Xinhua News had wrongly accused. The families demanded that the Hong Kong government respond to their requests directly, Chow said.

Chinese state broadcaster CGTN fined £225,000 by UK regulator

Ofcom, the media regulator, has fined China Global Television Network (CGTN), China’s state broadcaster, £225,000 for breaching rules on fairness, privacy and due impartiality just weeks after it stripped the network of its right to air in the
UK.

Ofcom had previously found CGTN guilty of airing allegedly forced confessions made by British citizen Peter Humphrey as well as coverage of protests in Hong Kong that failed to present other viewpoints to that of Beijing.

CGTN network’s licence to air was revoked in the UK last month after concluding that it was editorially controlled by the Chinese Communist party, provoking Beijing to retaliate by banning the BBC’s World News channel.

The awards will take place in Los Angeles on April 25. “Do Not Split,” which chronicles the 2019 demonstrations against China’s tightening grip over the former British territory, was nominated for best short documentary.

The Communist Party’s propaganda department told all local media outlets to scrap live broadcasts of the Oscars.
