Can China Change the Definition of Human Rights?
A Chinese government official addressed for the first time at the 46th of the United Nationsā Human Rights Council. The speech of Wang Yi, Chinese Foreign Minister, included that Beijingās attempt to remake the very concept of human rights to suit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) better.
The CCP has been accused of large-scale human rights abuse since the founding of the Peopleās Republic of China in 1949, including the crackdown in Tibet in 1959, the bloodshed of the Cultural Revolution, Tiananmen Square massacre 1989 and ongoing genocide in Xinjiang.
Wangās proposition of āpeople-centeredā human rights posits āpeopleās sense of gains, happiness and securityā as āthe fundamental pursuit of human rights.ā He reformulated human rights that economic prosperity and the nebulous concept of āhappinessā replaced racial and gender equality or freedom of religion, and security.

Judge Slams Prosecution of #YuenLong721 a wasting of the courtās time
The magistrate Eddie Yip Chor-man spent the morning questioning the prosecutionās opening statement, in which the prosecution mentioned multiple times that a āviolent confrontation took placeā between the while-clad and black-clad, but did not provide any detail of the confrontation.
Yip questioned that, āDoes 'violent confrontation' mean the two parties fought each other?ā and āwho fought whom firstā in the āviolent confrontationā.
In response, the prosecution clarified that it was the white-clad who hit the black-clad with rattan canes and wooden sticks while the black-clad counter-attacked.
Magistrate Yip expressed dissatisfaction, blasting the prosecution, āAre you writing a flashback or a time-travelling novel? Weāre not making a film. It looks like you have edited that film!ā
He later concluded that, āIt turns out that the 6 (Chinese) characters (violent confrontation taken place) have encapsulated a lot.ā
The Magistrate also questioned why the prosecution detailed a screening event on 16 Jul in the first 2 paragraphs of the statement.
The prosecution ended up admitting that the screening event was irrelevant and was slammed by Yip of wasting time.

Chinaās Politburo member and former foreign minister Yang Jiechi said on February 1 that he hopes US President Joe Biden will work on restoring a predictable and constructive Sino-American relationship while calling on the US to stop interfering in issues involving Chinese sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This appeal came as all eyes are on whether the two powersā relations will improve under the Biden administration. Calling on the newly inaugurated president to work towards a peaceful and mutually beneficial relationship, Yang said the US should uphold the āone Chinaā principle and respect Beijingās position and concerns when it comes to Taiwan. He further called on the US to refrain from meddling in issues surrounding Hong Kong, Tibet and Xinjiang, warning that the feelings of the 1.4 billion Chinese are ānot to be hurtā.
Speaking in a video conference hosted by the USā National Committee on United States-China Relations, Yang stated that issues surrounding Hong Kong, Tibet and Xinjiang are matters concerning Chinaās core interests and national dignity.
