Infected Chinese couple took paracetamol and returned to China. 7 people on the plane had fever and all 200 people quarantined

(30 Mar) The novel coronavirus has become a worldwide pandemic. Just as China is reporting a cool down on the pandemic, many Chinese overseas have chosen to return to China to avoid the outbreak. However some people were ill. Tianjin municipal government announced on 22 March that there were four new imported confirmed cases, two of them were a French Chinese couple. They took the flight from Paris to Beijing. A passenger posted on Weibo that the couple had fever symptoms a week before they flew but hided the truth and took paracetamol before boarding the plane. He only reported he had symptoms such as fever, dry cough and headache when he was at immigration. A passenger discovered the French male felt unwell before he boarded but his wife claimed there was no need to worry and explained her husband coughed only because of his smoking habit and “he was fine and was not unwell”. After arriving at Tianjin, as 7 people on the plane had a fever, all 200 people on the plane had to undergo mandatory quarantine.

Let’s talk about the Beirut explosion. It’s only a small talk with some interesting information, please read it if you’re interested, otherwise, please feel free to skip it.

(5 Aug) According to BBC, officials reported that the explosion at Beirut’s port is most likely linked to a large amount of ammonium nitrate stored for six years in one of the port’s warehouse.

//Around a decade ago, ammonium nitrate was still somewhat profitable, but it has been declining year after year... Because of the overcapacity.

//Who push the market to excess capacity? China... the situation was so bad that even their own people discussed and warned them

//CCP does not encourage people to farm at all; they prefer demolishing and bulldozing good lands to build buildings, for better prices.

//Rather than storing the ammonium nitrate in China, we might as well treat them as a favor, half-gifted, half-sold. It doesn't matter if the buyer doesn't have the money, Bank of China could be the syndicated loan guarantee

//China began its massive export orders... 2014-2015 were the good years, soon foreign warehouses are full and they were telling China not to send out fertilizer anymore.

//why would a country, and even the capital city Beirut, need to store 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate fertilizer into its port warehouse

//why we, the ordinary citizens, need to keep an eye on politicians... just like the epidemic, if you don't care about politics, politics will come and kill you.

China snubs senior US official in worsening diplomatic stand-off

Beijing has snubbed the US by refusing to grant Wendy Sherman, deputy secretary of state, a meeting with her counterpart during a proposed visit to China that would have been the first top-level engagement since acrimonious talks in Alaska.

The US halted plans for Sherman to travel to Tianjin after China refused to agree to a meeting with Le Yucheng, her counterpart, according to four people familiar with the decision. China offered a meeting with Xie Feng, the number five foreign ministry official who is responsible for US affairs.

The Biden administration had been negotiating what would have been the first high-level engagement since their first meeting in Alaska, which erupted into a public spat between Antony Blinken, US secretary of state, and Yang Jiechi, the top Chinese foreign policy official.

During Latest Exchange, China Presents US With 2 Lists of Grievances

On July 25 and 26, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman was in Tianjin, China. While the State Department read-out characterized the trip as “meetings with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other PRC officials,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry made it clear that Sherman’s primary interlocutor was Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng, the official responsible for North American affairs.

According to Xinhua, China’s state media agency, Xie presented Sherman with two lists: the “List of U.S. Wrongdoings that Must Stop” and the “List of Key Individual Cases that China Has Concerns With.” The full lists were not made available publicly, but Xinhua provided a summary.
