HK Police Claim to Observe "Whether Reporters are Really Working"

On the eve of Christmas, Hong Kong Police were heavily deployed in Shatin's New Town Plaza.

Some citizens played Christmas songs at the officers with a loudspeaker from the upper levels of the shopping mall. Some of the lyrics in the songs were modified to mock the police.

In response, a group of officers tried to move towards where the music was played, by takinh shortcuts through a metal gate of the mall's access passages.

They stopped only when they were ordered not to enter the mall over their walkie-talkies; however, the police still opened the gate and called out to the press on the other side, warning them not to stand too close together or risk violating the two-person gathering ban.

When reporters cited the gathering ban's exemptions for journalists, the officer in charge agreed that both journalists and police officers were exempted, but they would be "closely observing whether the reporters are actually conducting journalism work".

The police emphasized that they were only "reminding" the reporters, but would enforce the ban if anyone does not heed their reminders.

Hong Kong Reverend Lo Hing-choi, "We resonate with the Jews who were ruled by foreigners; God will not let darkness take control forever"

Reverend Lo Hing-choi, the chairman of the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong, released an article titled "Light will shine in dark" on #ChristmasEve2020.

Lo reread the Book of Isaiah from the Old Testament, which recounted how the Kingdom of Judah fell into the hands of the Assyrian Empire.

Lo wrote: "We resonate with the Jew who were controlled by foreigners. Losing one's autonomy is a painful thing. Living in your own land but following the orders of foreigners is hard to accept."

Despite the Jews at that time had lived in darkness, "God's promise is not an anesthetic, but a motivation to drive history forward." Today many people are surrounded by darkness, but Lo wanted to tell those in darkness that "light will shine in dark and God will not let darkness take control forever".
