Chinese student shows off Gucci bags looted in Seattle protests

//Chinese student shows off luxury bags as warped way to show patriotism during George Floyd protests

// After tens of thousands of George Floyd anti-racism protestors filled the streets in the U.S., a Chinese student in the U.S. tweeted pictures of luxury bags that he claimed were looted.

//One of several provocative pro-China tweets read: "It is the Gucci bag I looted in Seattle. Is that good-looking? Poor Taiwanese students threatened to report it to the FBI. I am dead. I am in Seattle. Come to get me. Ha ha ha! I love the Communist Party and love my home country more. Americans owe a lot to China and a few bags cannot repay us for our loss. Are American that stingy?"

//Three hours later, he tweeted again, with a picture of a Dior bag for men, saying its label price was US$2,700 and equal to several months of wages for poor Taiwanese students.

Chinese Students in the US Accuse #JoshuaWong of “Promoting Terrorism” in a University Student Webinar

Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong, the former secretary-general of Demosistō, was invited to a webinar held by the Student Union of Indiana University to share his experience in Hong Kong.

The invitation has caused a lot of complaints by Chinese students in the university, claiming the event has “broken Chinese students’ hearts”, “damaged the rights of Chinese students” and “promoted terrorism”. One even intimidated members of the Student Union.

Members of Student Union, however, did not back down, and the chairperson stressed his support for Wong.

Wong agreed to attend the event when it was first offered in the beginning of November. Wong expressed the need to fight for freedom through actions but admitted that “I might be in jail again soon since I am facing an accusation that could result in a maximum of 5-year imprisonment. So, I really appreciate every chance I have to share my experience”.

Wong indicated that although he has been under state surveillance since June, and disqualified for District Council election, he believed that Hongkongers should persist in fighting for freedom. He said he will never give up on this fight and encouraged students to be more involved. “When freedom of speech is in jeopardy, actions are better things to do”.

Wong also mentioned general manager of the Houston Rockets basketball team, Daryl Morey’s incident last year when he was forced to backdown after his tweet in support of Hong Kong protester led to a Chinese backlash. He highlighted importance of freedom of speech beyond Hong Kong.

Pompeo Urges U.S. University To Scrutinize Chinese Students To Avoid Stealing And Brainwashing

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday urged U.S. universities to scrutinize China's assistance and students, warning that Beijing was set on to steal American innovations.

Speaking at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Pompeo said the United States welcomes Chinese who "genuinely" want study in the country, but also cited two cases of Chinese students who were charged with spying and some cases of Beijing harassing of students abroad. “If we don’t educate ourselves, if we’re not honest about what’s taking place, we’ll get schooled by Beijing,” he said. “The Chinese Communist Party knows it can never match our innovation, that’s why it sends 400 thousand students a year to the United States of America to study,” he added.

Once again, he called on U.S. universities to shut down all Confucius Institutes, “We cannot allow this tyrannical regime to steal our stuff, to build their military might and brainwash our people, or buy off our institutions to help them cover up these activities… We need administrators to close Confucius Institutes and investigate what so-called ‘student groups’ backed by the CCP money are actually up to on their campuses,” he declared.

Chinese students in Australia fear reprisals at home if they speak out, inquiry hears

Chinese students in Australia are afraid to speak out on politically sensitive issues because of potential repercussions for relatives back home

Human Rights Watch has said its ongoing research into academic freedom in Australia had found anxiety and loneliness among Chinese students, with some engaging in self-censorship to avoid a backlash from Beijing.

“All these very young people who said that their greatest fear was their parents being visited back in China because of something they said or did or participated in while they were in Australia,” a former ABC journalist McNeill told the joint committee on intelligence and security in Canberra.

Pro-democracy Hong Kong students in UK harassed by Chinese students

Hong Kong students studying abroad have recently shared their experiences of being harassed when organizing events in school campuses in the UK in support of the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong.

Jamie and Kitty are among the Hong Kong students who suffer mobbing. Chinese students called them “cockroaches” and “traitors” in Mandarin.

Kitty said the organizers of Hong Kong-related events, including herself, were all doxxed. Their personal information was posted on China social media groups and they were tagged as “Hong Kong Independence Supporters” and “Cockroaches”.

Their application for holding the event was also held up by the school campus multiple times. The event was finally approved with the restriction that it has to be a silent event. “

It made me realize that our campus could no longer serve as a place for us to speak for the current situation in Hong Kong”, said Kitty. She accused the school of “fearing the loss of revenue by the tuition fees of Chinese students”.

Moreover, students revealed that the #CCP used the Chinese Students and Scholars Association in the United Kingdom (#CSSAUK), as a tool to penetrate school campuses in the UK in which Chinese students are bribed into voting the CCP appointed persons to become committees of the Association.

According to the CSSAUK website, it is an association that is “supported by the Education Section of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the UK”. It also claimed to be the largest Chinese association in the UK.

Following the eruption of the 2019 Anti-ELAB movements and amid the coronavirus pandemic, it is found that more Chinese students have been admitted the universities in Hong Kong.

According to the documents released by the Education Bureau, among the 8 UFC-funded universities, 6 made new heights in the admission of Chinese students in the 2020/21 Academic Year.

Particularly in #LingnanUniversity, #BaptistUniversity and #EducationUniversity, the
student composition is greatly imbalanced, with Chinese students making up 80% of all non-local students.

The University Grants Committee (#UGC) claimed that international undergraduate admission has taken a hit owing to the pandemic, thwarting the plans of overseas talents to study in Hong Kong.
