Police Conduct Mass Arrests on PRC's National Day in Hong Kong; At Least 62 Arrested in Shopping District

A massive number of civilians near Paterson Street were stopped and searched. Police then tied their hands behind their back with cable ties in succession.

According to journalists on site, at least 62 people were held by the police.

Police arrested 46 men and 17 woman (62 people in total) with the charge of illegal assemblies.

HK Police Arrest District Councillors Among other Civilians

On PRC's National Day, Aalarge amount of Hong Kong police was on their guard in downtown Hong Kong. Theuly have been intercepting civilians.

At around 4 pm, police suddenly cordoned Paterson Street. A lot of civilians including Eastern District councillor Lee Yue-Shun were surrounded and arrested.

After that, Lee with his hands tied was brought to a bus arranged by the police. Despite the pandemic threat, the police removed Lee's mask and had his face recorded.

A young German stated: “HK Police went easy on my Free Tibet T-shirt probably due to their poor English.”

Earlier this afternoon, a German born in Hong Kong, Sam, wearing a “Free Tibet” T-shirt and “Fuck Racism” face mask was intercepted and searched on Paterson Street, suspecting of violating the National Security Law.

He told reporters that the police officer searched him asked, “What is Tibet?” also asking whether he has been to Tibet. He was surprised that the officer didn’t inquire much about the T-shirt, adding it was probably due to their poor English communication skills.

The young German was later ticketed for violating gathering ban.

A blue flag signifying independence waved in front of Police

Amidst heavy presence of police, a citizen in black T-shirt pompously flew a blue East Turkestan flag just 20 meters away from a police officer who also raised up a “blue flag” that read "disperse or we fire".

The East Turkestan flag was endorsed by the Government of the Islamic Republic of East Turkestan in November 1933. The flag prevailed the CCP takeover of Xinjiang and has then become a symbol of East Turkestan independence.

Pro-democracy activists chant slogans defying the authorities' illusion of harmony

Around 5pm on Oct 1, 2020, Tsuen Wan district councilor, Lester Shum, Tuen Mun District Councilor Sam Cheung and Owen Chow were sighted in Causeway Bay chanting slogans, calling for public attention to the 12 pro-democracy Hongkongers arrested and detained in China.

They were warmly supported by onlookers at the scene. Chow expressed that it is important for Hong Kong people to continue protesting and chanting slogans on the street and defy the illusion of harmony created by the government.

Net Media Journalists Stopped and Frisked by Police

Free HK Media journalist Mr. To was taking a short break near SOGO department store in Causeway Bay with three other colleagues, they were suddenly surrounded by police.

When they are being stop-and-frisked, the police found their news agency were not on the *GNMIS list and had their personal information recorded.

An officer then pointed out that he recognized one of the reporters in the group, who was fined for violating the gathering ban while interviewing in Mong Kok.

Despite the intimidation, Mr. To didn’t think he will be arrested. “I come here only to interview and report,” he said.

Editor's note: *GNMIS list is the accreditation system set up by the goverent. Lately, HK police redefined the definition of media, in which only government-recognised media and “internationally acknowledged” outlets were permitted to film and do interview.

Citizens have been chanting slogans like “down with corrupt cops” in downtown Hong Kong.

When the police arrived at the scene, they immediately dispersed the crowds in Great Georges Street and Paterson Street. The police set up different cordon areas to stop and frisk nearly a hundred passersby and journalists, arresting at least 2 men and 3 women, in addition to the earlier arrest of over 60 civilians.

As the police surged forward, many civilians in the shopping area tried to run to the stairs; however, those who tried to escape were forced to get down on the staircases under police orders, wreaking havoc in the area.

A woman reading Apple Daily nearby was being stop-and-frisked. “I was just reading the newspapers” she said in anger.

Another young girl, while being chastised and frisked by a male police, sat on the ground crying and trembling in fear. She kept saying “I wanted to see my mum…” A woman nearby, though arrested, tried her best to comfort her.

According to police figures, until 18:00, at least 74 people were arrested across Hong Kong.

'Shine with You' on Hong Kong's Lion Rock

Netizens initiated a "shine with you" activity on top of Lion Rock on the Mid Autumn Festival.

Massive number of police have been deployed in the area, demanding citizens for their ID card number before they were allowed to enter the country park.

At 8pm, a bright light can be seen shining on the ridge of the local hill, where pro-democracy human chain took place during the Anti-Elab movement in 2019.

HK Police Deny Molesting the Breast of a Female Journalist

While a police officer was cordoning an area with arms widespread, he allegedly molested the breast of a female journalist of “Chor Post”.
