US President Donald Trump considers more Chinese companies sanctions and Alibaba could be the next target.
Asked at a press conference whether other Chinese companies such as Alibaba would be banned after targeting TikTok, President Trump replied, “Well, we're looking at other things, yes.”
According to a recent CNN analysis, Trump called Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, a friend of his after Ma said he would donate supplies to the US for fighting the pandemic. Still, Alibaba might become the next target. In a statement made earlier this month, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the expansion of the Clean Network programme. In mid-June, a female student in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province of China, suddenly fainted in the classroom and was taken to the medical room of het school.
Her school called an ambulance. According to the mother of the girl, the first responders sent her daughter ditectly to a funeral home, citing she showed no signs of life. Since the funeral home refused to accept a person without any death certificate, the girl was then sent to a hospital. The girl passed away.
The official response states that taking the girl into the ambulance was an action only to appease the family members, which was compliant with the regulations.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced Beijing-sponsored and organized programmes for universal coronavirus testing of the millions of Hong Kong residents to begin on September 1st, and that the the first testing period will range from 7 to 14 days. However, as the plan doesn’t come along with quarantine measures, its effects came with suspicion from the medical field
Microbiologist Ho Pak-Leung, head of the University of Hong Kong’s Center for Infection, cast doubts on its effectiveness. He pointed out that when the incubation period of the virus was about 5 days, if the government were unable to test for all residents within 4 days, not only would asymptomatic patients spread quickly in the community, the percentage of false negative cases would increase drastically.
Professor David SC Hui, member of the government’s disease-combating advisory group and Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, admitted that without quarantine orders, the practicality of the plan was much lowered. However, he said this was what the government had anticipated.
Pneumoconiosis specialist Dr. Leung Chi-Chiu, on the other hand, expressed worries, as the government can cover at best about one-forth of all transmission chains, which may make residents heedless of the risks of a potential surge.

Another intervention took place afterwards, as the Department of Justice, likewise, stated to the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts of its wishes of intervening and annulling the private prosecution issued to a driver, who was involved in driving into pro-democracy protesters and severely wounding the crowd in Sham Shui Po on October 6, 2019.
Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng had stated earlier in her blog that although private prosecutions are an important part of the common law system, the system is susceptible to abuse, claiming that, "We should not tolerate private prosecutions on such trivial incidents and factless rumours, or private prosecutions of malicious intent and those based on political factors."
Both private prosecutions were raised by pro-democracy lawmaker Ted Hui. As of August 24, the request of the Secretary for Justice was formalized in court.

On August 20, 2020, it was revealed that Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng had taken the rare step of intervening in the case, informing Hui that the Department of Justice would exercise its power to end the case and that the defendant Cheng would be exempted from testifying in court.
Subsequently, the law firm representing Cheng wrote to Hui’s lawyer in bid of seeking HK$82,000 to cover its expenses. The law firm representing the defendant, K.C Ho & Fong, has Beijing loyalist Junius Ho Kwan-yiu as a senior partner. The litigation fees include lawyer’s fee for Junius Ho at HK$9,400 per hour, stating the reason that “the summons should never have been taken out by the applicant at all”.
Disapproving the claim and the Secretary for Justice’s intervention, Hui called it absurd, pointing out that the authorities are attempting to frame this private prosecution as a trivial act with malicious intention. Hui believes that any sensible person could see the reasonable doubt in Cheng purposefully driving his car into the crowd.

On 22 August, 2020, the Caritas Employee Union revealed on Facebook that the HKSAR government will use three Caritas Community Centers located in Tsuen Wan, Nagau Tai Kok and Aberdeen for 14 days to collect COVID19 test samples. The centre will open for 12 hours for civilians to submit samples.
According to the Caritas Employee Union, besides the senior management, most of the frontline employees and some middle management staff objected this arrangement.
The Union told Kwun Tong Community News that employees only received the notification of the arrangement on 21 August but without any details of the plan and relevant pandemic prevention measures. The government took less than 24 hours to go from
site inspection to requisition. The employees found it a rash decision.
In particular, the Ngau Tau Kok Caritas Community Center located at On Tak Road is nearby the residential area and the Ngau Tai Kok market. Residents worried that a community outbreak of COVID19 could be caused in the neighborhood.
Ngau Tai Kok district councillor Li Wing Shan wrote on her Facebook page, condemning the government for not consulting the residents, market stall owners and district councillors about the arrangement. She pointed out that the government's use of these facilities is affecting the livelihood of the residents, “District councillors in Kwun Tong receive a lot of requests every day and refer many cases to the Caritas Community Center as a follow-up. 16 people, including Democratic Party legislators Lam Cheuk-ting and Ted Hui Chi-fung, online media reporter Hei Hei (熙熙) and others, were reportedly arrested on the morning of Aug 26, 2020, with 13 people charged with "rioting" under last year's Yuen Long 7.21 Attacks, while four people including Lam and Hui were charged with illegal assembly, perverting the course of justice, accessing computers with dishonest intent, property damage and other charges.
The Democratic Party had stated on social media that the police had separately arrested Lam and Hui at their residences, claiming their involvement in a last year's case regarding the Tuen Mun Police Station. The police also claimed that Lam had a rioting charge for his involvement in the Yuen Long 7.21 Attacks.
For Hui, the police claimed he had charges of accessing computers with criminal or dishonest intent, property damage among others.
According to Lam's social media account administrator, the police also claimed Lam had charges of conspiring others to damage property and perverting the course of justice.
CRHK and TVB and among others stated that 13 men, including Lam, were charged with rioting charges for last year's Yuen Long 7.21 Attacks. 3 men and 1 women, including Lam and Hui, were involved in last year's Tuen Mun Park case, with charges of illegal assembly, perverting the course of justice, accessing computers with dishonest intent, property damage among others.
According to online media reporter Hei Hei, police had a search warrant while searching his residence, later demanding him stop recording.
On 6 July 2019, netizens organised a "Liberate Tuen Mun Park" march. After the march ended, around 400 pro-democracy protesters gathered outside the Tuen Mun Police Station. According to reports that day, Lam and Hui were there to defuse the situation. Nearly all citizens dispersed at around 10 in the evening.
On 21 July evening last year, dozens of men in white shirts entered the Yuen Long MTR Station, YOHO Mall and other locations holding metal and wooden rods. (11 Aug) In response to United States new rule on origin country and made of Hong Kong products, Hong Kong Government released a statement on 11 Aug 2020 to strongly opposite the new rule and criticise US measures contravened WTO rules, by explaining that Hong Kong is a separate member under WTO, special status as a separate customs territory is granted under “One Country Two System’ which is conferred by the Constitution of China under the Basic Law.
The Hong Kong Government news press is ridiculous and is absolutely inconsistent with what the Chief Executive of Hong Kong rationalised the legislation of National Security Law in Hong Kong by explaining “our Country”, China, has its right to “protect” Hong Kong by implementing China’s law to the local level; completely violated the fundamental spirits of “One Country Two System” or “Basic Law”.
