Chinese Embassies in the world stop passport renewal and issuing new passports

Image 1:
My friend's Chinese passport will expire the second half of this year. He went to the Chinese embassy to renew the passport in March but the embassy kept postponing the appointment date. My friend got a notification in April for appointment then got change to July. He called today and was informed that the passport can't be renewed because the factory in China stopped the passport production. The Chinese embassy recommended him to go back to China first.

This is the third case that Chinese embassy rejected a renewal passport application. This round of locking down of China is coming violently and rapidly.

Image 2:
A Chinese embassy in Tokyo also refused to issue new passports.

Image 3:
This is what overseas Uyghurs have experienced all these years. No passports is issued to them, they are only given travel permits, and have to go back to China to get passports. And once they go back to China for passports, they are sent to concentration camps. At that time when the Uyghurs came out and shouted such policy was unfair, many Chinese didn’t believe it. Now it’s good, every person, one by one, is entering Xinjiang mode. It seems it won’t be too long to see concentration camps in places other than Xinjiang in mainland China!

How should democratic states respond to the rising threat from China?

China passed the new National Security Law in Hong Kong on 1st July 2020.

Since then, any pro-democracy activists who are involved in international lobbying can be sent to China with the maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

This law can shape the future of the world. If authoritarian states like China are left unchecked, democracy will soon become a dream of the past. We have seen what China has done to Tibet, even Mainland China, and now Hong Kong. China’s expansionism and authoritarianism is a threat to democracies worldwide.

Right now, countries need to cooperate and stand up to China by all means. The ‘Wave of Freedom’ campaign urges the major democracies (the D-10) to coordinate responses and implement measures, economic sanctions, for example, to safeguard Hong Kong’s freedoms and democracy.

NSW Labor MP suspended after raids probing China links

China’s infiltration plot surfaces in Australia as NSW Labor MP Shaoquett Moselmane became suspended after home raid for probing China links. Moselmane himself is revealed to have taken nine privately-funded trips to China, paid by Chinese Government or agencies as documents disclosed, since he entered Parliament in 2009. Moselmane has a part-time political staffer, Zhang, who completed a propaganda training course prepared by an academy that trained senior cadres of the Chinese Communist Party.

However, Moselmane was not the only MP to speak for China. Labor Party’s director Allan Gyngell during a meeting in the Shadow Cabinet criticized and attempted to silence those who are vocal about China as he told them “not to cause a fuss”. Labor MPs are therefore concerning their free speech being curtailed by Anthony Albanese’s leadership team. They claimed they were urged to not to sign an international letter condemning China over Hong Kong’s National Security Law.

Meanwhile, university undergraduate student Pavlou is expelled from the University of Queensland and is facing graphic death threat as well as vile abuse after he gathered to speak out against Beijing’s anti-democracy efforts in Hong Kong, the treatment of the Uighur minority, and the university’s close ties with China. Mr Pavlou was assaulted by men who are alleged to be sent by the Consulate.

If Pacific Light Cable Network is not approved, it will endanger more US-Hong Kong submarine communication cables

(22 Jun) As Pacific Light Cable Network (PLCN) is under the threat of being block by the United States, it may impact many submarine communication cables that are under construction across the Pacific, including HKA invested by Facebook and BtoBE invested by Amazon. Most of them involve participation of Chinese state-owned telecommunications companies, for example, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecommunications Corporation.

//HKA (Hong Kong-America) announced the construction plan in February 2018, which was jointly invested by Facebook, China Telecom, China Unicom, Tata, Telstra and RTI Cable.

//BtoBE (Bay to Bay Express) was jointly invested by China Mobile, Facebook and AWS... It branches to Chung Hom Kok, Hong Kong; Changi, Singapore; and Cherating, Malaysia. The total capacity is 108Tbps and it is expected to be available in 2021.

//...recommended that the FCC reject the PLCN application for operation. HKA and BtoBE are heavily invested by Chinese state-owned telecom companies, and this might lead to stronger resistance in approving the operation application.

//Multinational companies surrendered more office space in Hong Kong last quarter, pushing the city’s vacancy rate to the highest in 15 years.

13 Months On: Yellow Raincoat Man Remembered

20:49 | Pacific Place, #Admiralty

It has been 13 months since the death of Leung Ling-kit (more affectionately known as the Yellow Raincoat man), who is considered to be the first martyr of the anti-extradition movement.

Groups of people from all Walls of life have made their way down to the site of his death to place flowers in memory and tribute to him.

An illuminated light box depicting an illustration of a yellow raincoat was also hung on the tree where the flowers were being placed.

Last year, Leung's death sparked off a peaceful protest that involved 2 million participants making an appeal to the government to withdraw the extradition bill. This demonstration has made it to the books as Hong Kong's biggest demonstration up to date.

It may have already been more than a year since Leung's departure, but he will forever be remembered as an important figure in the movement.

31st Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre - first ever worldwide online commemoration

On Sunday (31 May) evening, Beijing time, the American-based Humanitarian China and the New School for Democracy held a videoconferencing meeting with Zoom, which is not banned in China. They jointly produced posters to commemorate the 31st June Fourth anniversary worldwide.

Pro-democracy activists held an online event for the first time in history to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre, allowing "June Fourth representative groups" to communicate on the same platform. Some representatives did not attend due to pressure from the Chinese government, however. The meeting was also disrupted connectivity issues. Despite the difficulties, hundreds of people attended and shared their memories of the June Fourth Massacre. (Reported by Wu Yixuan & Cheng Wen)

Pro-Beijing Party Releases Plan for Legislative Council Election

//Hong Kong’s biggest pro-Beijing party, the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB), has released its list of candidates for the Legislative Council elections in September, describing it as the most challenging poll it has ever faced.

The party holds 13 seats in the current council.

The party chair Starry Lee is to run for the District Council (second) superseat, with Kwun Tong district councillor Frankie Ngan second on the ballot.

Incumbents Horace Cheung (Hong Kong Island), Vincent Cheng (Kowloon West), Holden Chow and Ben Chan (New Territories West), Gary Chan and Elizabeth Quat (New Territories East) are all seeking re-election.

This means veterans Ann Chiang, Leung Che-cheung and Wong Ting-kwong are gone, as will be current lawmakers Wilson Or, and Edward Lau.

Former Wong Tai Sin district councillor Joe Lai is a late replacement for Or, who announced he's not running last month.

In the functional constituencies, Steven Ho will look to retain his seat in the agricultural and fisheries sector.

A local delegate to the mainland's top advisory body, lawyer Kennedy Wong, has recently joined the DAB, and will try to retain the Import and Export seat vacated by Wong Ting-kwong.

Sham Shui Po district councillor Lau Pui-yuk will contest Legco’s district council (first) seat, and former district councillor Eric Tam will run in the social welfare sector.

Briefing the media, the party leader Lee accused the opposition of trying to “mutually destruct” Hong Kong by vetoing all government proposals, including future budgets, and paralysing Legco.

She alleged that their plan is to force Beijing to have a bloody crackdown here, to pave way for sanctions from Western countries.//

Anonymous Informant Delivered Information from Australia Social Media Groups to Hong Kong Police. Accusing the Groups Violating Chinese Law

Hong Kong's national security law claimed to be applicable to foreigners residing overseas. Details of two social media groups followed by thousands of Hongkongers in Australia have been delivered to HK's pro-Beijing Police Department by an anonymous informant, calling for its members to be "punished" for breaking the city's new National Security Law.

It is believed that such "crime reporting" to HK police was intended to create white terror among Chinese overseas. Such actions may violate Australian legislation regarding the freedom of speech, according to lawyers.

Chinese Australians warn of sleeper agents

Chinese Australians warn of sleeper agents

The Australian government has offered a range of special visa arrangements for Hong Kong Chinese, which could lead to permanent Australian residency.

Security experts warn that Beijing could use the opportunity to plant sleeper agents in Australia, while the sons and daughters of senior CCP officials studying in Australia could also seek a path to permanent residency. Family members of at least two senior Hong Kong government officials — Education Secretary Yeung Yun-hung, whose department is mandating new pro-China textbooks, and pro-Beijing politician Tam Yiu-chung — are living in Australia.

Hong Kong migrants to Australia also fear the families of Hong Kong police members could seek Australian residency, despite the character and security check by immigration department. Failure in detecting CCP agents can result in serious costs.

While such concerns should not be the excuse to deny entry for Hong Kong immigrants, the Australian government needs to be judicious about it, said a Liberal MP.
