Police Officer: My eyes tell me that you're too loud
Activist Charged for Violating "Noise Control Ordinance"

Avery Ng Man Yuen, the secretary general of the League of Social Democrats, set up a street booth in Wong Po last month to collecting signatures of people to garner support for the establishment of aids for the unemployed. In the process, he was charged with violating the "Noise Control Ordinance".

His case was heard in the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court, of which he denied the charges. Ng said that he had requested for the police officer to measure the amount of noise generated by his booth with a sound pressure level meter. Instead, he got an extremely hostile and antagonistic response from the officer, saying "My eyes tell me that you're too loud!".

He questioned the government, and asked if actions like these were becoming way too common nowadays, as they have exhausted all other means to oppress and persecute members of the oppostion. He even speculated that the future after the enactment of the National Security Law could mean that that setting up of street booths such as the one that he setup to help a certain community in need, would be made illegal.

Neighbourhood and Worker's Service Centre: Unity of the Pro-democracy Camp Over Winning of Seats

The election for new legislative councillors has been slated to happen in September. The pro-democracy camp is preparing for the primary elections in Hong Kong on 11 and 12 July, and has the intention to request the losing candidates not to join the election.

On 19 June, Neighbourhood and Worker's Service Centre (Neighbourhood workers) met the media and shared that their focus was not just with the result of the primary election. They said that they are closely watching the results of the latest public survey in order to make a decision of their focus at a later time. After being criticised by different parties, the Neighbourhood and Workers' Service Centre released a statement stating their intentions "to not be obsessed about seats in legislative council" and "to ensure that the camp unites".

They have decided not to participate in the 2020 LegCo election.

Authorities Ban Annual July 1 Protest in Hong Kong, Democracy Front Calls For Solidarity

This year marks the first time that the police issued a “letter of objection” for a march that was traditionally slated to happen on every July 1.

Figo Chan, convenor of Civil Human Rights Front, said this afternoon that he initiated the march on 1st July on his own accord, together with Eddie Chu Hoi-dick, a legislation council member, Wu Chi-wai, a lawmaker and the current chairman of Democratic Party and other pro-democracy camp lawmakers. He said that he understood that it is tough to withdraw the national security law, but Hongkongers have to make their cries for freedom heard.

"Don’t think what others can do for you. Think about what you should work hard for yourself," said Chan, in a bid to rally the support of Hongkongers for the upcoming march.

Chan also mentioned that the objective of the march remains consistent to the aims of Civil Human Rights Front, to “Protest against the national security law, and reiterate the five demands.”.

The assembly point and starting time of the march remains unchanged. The route is from East Point Road in Causeway Bay to Chater Road in Central. He said that this march will involve people from a wide spectrum in solidarity.

He emphasized that the number of people present for this march is important. He urged people to come out together and make it known to the government, “not to accuse anyone innocently. Not to disqualify anyone from the Pro-democracy camp from joining election.”

He explained that he did not have any prior discussions with Civil Human Rights Front about this march, and that the League of Social Democrats respected Chan's decision.

Chan said he had been accused of 3 or 4 times. He understands that being arrested this time round again runs a very high risk for him, but he still wants to encourage Hongkongers to not be silenced by fear, and to not give up.

Kwun Tong Inter School Concern Group called for a "Sing For You" assembly in APM shopping mall. Around 70 citizens, young and old, participated, chanting slogans such as "Down with corrupt cops" and "July 1, See you in Victoria Park," referring to the Annual July 1 March, which the police exceptionally didn't issue the Letter of No Objection in 23 years.

1814 |
Over 30 police entered the APM. Police announced that the civilians were participating in an unlawful assembly and violating the gathering ban.

The shopping center broadcasting system soon started to play prerecorded tracks on the importance of social distancing and the contents of the assembly ban.

While some shoppers left, many remained, chanting slogans like "Five Demands, Not One Less". About 12 officers set up cordon in Kwun Tong's busiest shopping hub.
