[The Protestor]

'The Protester' is a sculpture made out of recycled cardboard, created by Ronald Au, who fronts a nonprofit organisation and company called Theatre du Poulet in Halifax, Canada.

Ronald said that this figure is dedicated to all the Hong Kongers who have been fighting for freedom and democracy for a year since last June. It is also dedicated to the people around the world who are fighting for the same believes and values as us.

There is a message from Ronald:

"Together
We fight
We resist
We never give up"

Keep fighting for what we believe in Hong Kongers.
One day, glory will come to Hong Kong.

Hongkongers: 'Golden Nica' Awardees of Ars Electronica

Hongkongers’ movement won the highest award in the 'Digital Communities' category.

"Be Water by Hong Kongers"

"We submit this project not as artists but as messengers. Our agenda is to collect examples of digital excellence from within the protest movement and generalize them into one discourse of “digital community.” Hong Kongers have set new standards of digital activism, the lessons of which must be shared.

“Be Water” is their guiding philosophy, just as in the Chinese classical text *Tao Te Ching* by Lao Tzu, the highest good is like water. As messengers and Hong Kong citizens ourselves, we document the past and present, credit the Hong Kong protesters, and hope to bring Hong Kongers to the center of art, technology, and society and provoke a much-needed dialogue about how digital culture shapes our practice of civic responsibility now and in the future."

“We are not __”: HK Lady Liberty Exhibition

One year into movement, an exhibition "We are not_____”, featuring Hong Kong's Lady Liberty, was held in Openground from 21 May to 7 June 2020. Visitors could freely name the exhibition according to their wish.

Part 1: What does the Lady Liberty of Hong Kong mean to you: a statue, an icon, or Hong Kong spirit?

The Lady Liberty Hong Kong project was realized by local artists, designers and human right activists in the summer of 2019.

After a crowdfunding campaign in August, the “Lady Liberty Hong Kong” statue was built after frontline protesters. The statue represents the unwavering will and the fearlessness in fighting against tyranny.

The statue was brought to different protests. As the last act, the statue was placed at the summit of Lion Rock, a landmark hill symbolizing Hong Kong spirit. Although the status was destroyed, it had signifies Hongkongers' determination and strenuous effort in the pursuit of democracy.

Part 2: Who would protect our land if we give up?

The building of the “#LadyLiberty" statue and its transportation were explained in videos. The blueprint and 3D printing models walked the visitors through the technology involved. Different “Lady Liberty HK” statues were also shown in form of figurines portraying different roles in the pro-democracy movement.

As the center of the exhibition, the remaining parts of the statue were featured and accompanied by the “Liberty Hong Kong, Revolution of Our Times” flag.

Beside news clippings to highlight the important events in the ongoing movement, a Lennon Wall wss set up for visitors to express themselves.

At last, the staircase was decorated with words of encouragement: “There's hope in Hong Kong...We can change the world."

With the determination and perseverance symbolized by the Lady Liberty, one possible title of the exhibition is perhaps “We are not giving up” .

Call for Magnitsky Act

A group of Australians, Uyghurs, Tibetans, Vietnameses,
Hongkongers and other communities rallied for global enactment of the Magnitsky Act in Brisbane, Australia at 12th June. A one year mark of the Hong Kong protests, this is the most tragic and unforgettable year for all Hongkongers.

When tear gas and rubber bullets become our daily basis, we will never forget the injustice and the brutality by the police force.

Thank you for all overseas people who believe in the the same values and standing with us. #Hongkongers will never give up.
