Government Representative Stops the Review of Police Report in Yuen Long District Council

: ā¬†ļø

The Yuen Long District Council (DC) called for its 3rd special meeting today to discuss an IPCC report on police brutality and the execution of group gathering ban. There were no police representatives and pro-establishment lawmakers present at the meeting.

Staff from the DC Secretariat left the meeting when discussion began on the IPCC report, and turned off the microphone in the meeting room as lawmakers continued their discussion.

A Yuen Long District Officer suggested that since the governmentā€™s stance towards these two issues is markedly different from the DC, the agenda should not be included in the DC meeting.

Yuen Long DC Vice Chairman Mak Ip-sing proposed writing a complaint letter to the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) for their absence.

Another Yuen Long District Officer previously wrote to the DC Chairman Wong Wai-yin, defending the HKPFā€™s action is applicable to all of Hong Kong and not just Yuen Long, therefore the two issues should not be included in the agenda.

China withheld data on coronavirus from WHO, recordings reveal

Recordings obtained by the Associated Press show WHO officials complaining in meetings during the week of 6 January that Beijing was not sharing important data concerning the coronavirus for risk assessment.

On 9 January China state media announced the illness was the result of a new coronavirus but said it was not contagious. It was not until 20 January that China confirmed the virus was contagious and it was not until 30 January that the WHO, which has been criticized for consistently lauding China, declared a global emergency.

Authorities locked down Wuhan on 23 January but at least 5 million residents had already left, traveling all over the world before the Lunar New Year holiday.

The virus has infected more than 6 million and killed more than 375,000 worldwide. Growing international scrutiny of Chinaā€™s handling of the outbreak is currently moving the establishment of an independent investigation.

(1 Jun) The real life Phunsukh Wangdu of 3 Idiots, Sonam Wangchuk, who is an Indian engineer and education reformist, calls on Indians to boycott Chinese products, including the Chinese app TikTok.

He said that China makes nearly NT$200 million a year from Indians, but this revenue is being used to kill Indians at the border. If the entire Indian population unites to boycott Chinese products, not just on phones and computers, but also on all apps, it will have a negative impact on the Chinese economy.

Today a Year Ago: 1-million-peopled Protest

The protest against the Extradition Bill was the largest in Hong Kong history on this very day a year ago.

The Democratic Front recorded 1.03 million participants, while the police claimed that there were only 240,000 people at its peak.

The government said that the procession was peaceful and orderly, but refused to answer the population's demand.

On the same day, the governmemt announced that the second reading of the bill would be carried out on June 12, 2019. After the march, police deployed pepper spray to people outside the Government Headquarters and the Legislative Council.

Another batch of about 100 civilians were stopped and searched by the police outside the Old Wan Chai Police Station at about 3 a.m. They had their particulars taken down by the police.
