Mass Arrest in Prince Edward, Grim Reenacting of Happenings 7 Months Prior

During today's 7th mensiversary of the 8.31 attack, police conducted mass arrests on commemorators. Captured men and women could be seen having their backs facing the wall, while riot police pulled civilians out from the commemorating crowds.

Riot police could also be seen inside Mong Kok Station, serving as a grim reminder of what happened in Prince Edward Station seven months prior.

Councilor Being Ignored by Police; Youngsters Escorted to Vehicle with Lights on

2142 | Prince Edward Road West, Prince Edward

Legislative Councilor Helena Wong Pik-wan arrived at the scene. She immediately approached the officers, asking whether the police were carrying out stop-and-search or preparing to arrest the 16 youngsters who were being forced on the side of the road, and implored to see the commander. Despite repeating her demands for more than 3 times, the officers took little notice to her, and sent the arrestees, one female while others male, onto a large police vehicle. However, as opposed to normal procedures so as to protect the arrestees’ privacy, the lights in the vehicle remain on, which makes them clearly visible to all pedestrian.

Police Scrutinize Every Reporter and Film their Belongings

2242 | Prince Edward
Police rounded up passersby at the corner and categorised them into reporters, first aiders and civilians.

At first, the police asked reporters to present their press pass and allow them to leave after checking. Suddenly, a police officer started to check the reporters’ identity cards. There were around 30 reporters at the scene.

A moment later, another officer said they needed to check the reporters’ addresses too. Police cross-checked press pass, identity card and affiliation of the reporters. After searching their bags, the police did not call the control centre, but filmed the belongings in the reporter’s bags.
