Mui Wo Residents are concerned about a community outbreak

As the coronavirus outbreak continues, more than 30 countries have been affected. As imported cases increase in Hong Kong, the local community becomes concerned again.
In addition to wearing masks, the public was asked by the health authorities to reduce meal gatherings.

InMedia reporter discovered that many Mui Wo residents living on Hong Kong's largest outlying island did not wear mask, nor did they maintain social distance -- as they continued to dine at bars and greeting each other by kissing on the cheeks.

Some Mui Wo residents expressed their concerns, although they understand some ethnic communities were not accustomed to wearing masks and some expats might not have any SARS experience in Hong Kong back in 2003. Residents still hope that everyone could wear a mask to prevent a community outbreak.

Government Proposes Liquor Ban, Bar Owners and Medics: Fake Anti-Epidemic Measure

On March 24, Chief Executive Carrie Lam proposed to ban alcohol in bars and restaurants in Hong Kong, calling it an anti-epidemic measure. Lam said, "when you go to a bar, you take off your face masks, have a drink, chat, sometimes people get a bit too close to each other when they’re drunk, and this will raise the risk of cross infection."

Industry representatives warned that the ban would affect thousands of restaurants and bars and might trigger business closures and lay-offs. They said the proposal targeted the trade unfairly. Vice Chairman of the Bars Association Chin Chun-wing slammed the proposal and called it a “feeble imagination”, as the Chief Executive claimed the risk for virus transmission increases when "people get a bit intimate after a few drinks".

YMCA sacks pro-democracy staff, stifling formation of labour union

Citing financial difficulty, the Hong Kong YMCA dismissed 28 staff members a week ago, including 2 convenors of the labour union and 9 employees of the Department of Social Services.

Two of the dismissed employees held a press conference on Monday, March 23, disclosing that Peter Ho Hing-lim, Chief Executive of YMCA has long been dissatisfied with the formation of a union. They condemned the political motivation in the lay-off plan, calling it a “white terror”.

It was also revealed that the senior management of YMCA once claimed that the pro-democracy movement is in opposition to YMCA. The group therefore refused to give any assistance to young protesters.

Zuitable

We all deserve a moment of glamour. For this, the tailors at Zuitable put their heart and soul into every measurement taken and every thread woven, as they believe that everybody can shine in a well-crafted suit. And in such dark times as these, it is their wish to be of at least some help to our comrades on trial, giving them the confidence they need to fight the many injustices ahead.

Zuitable offers tailor-made suits at different prices. Every aspect, from the overall design to such details as the textile and the buttons, allows for customization. For the owner, all that matters is that her customers are presentable whatever the situation may be.

The owner made a lot of friends in the movement, and together they made some wonderful memories. It always delights her that people she had never met would become her friends, coming into her shop every now and then for a chat and hanging out with her during festive seasons.

Speaking of the attacks directed at yellow businesses like hers, the owner said she’s not worried about them. A broken door or a shattered window would cost her at most a few thousand dollars, which are nothing compared to the many years of jail time our young freedom fighters are facing. Nothing is closer to her heart than seeing Hongkongers unite.

Zuitable
