To Hongkongers: This Revolution Must Go On

Seeing fellow Hongkongers, in thin clothes, pleading with passersby not to be oblivious to the pro-democracy movement, people gave away winter coats, scarves and brought over warm coffee to show support, not to mention those who came all the way to root for them.

Each one of you keeps us going day after day.

Please keep your rage.
Please keep the flame burning in your heart.
Until the day Hong Kong is free,
This revolution must go on.
In 2020 let’s fight till the end.

See you under “the pot”

Riot Police’s wanton suppression of civilians' self-help measures: "Shut up, or bite you"

A group of Lok Fu residents were voluntarily distributing alcohol hand rub and disinfection spray in the evening of February 27. About ten minutes after they started, police arrived and searched the young people on site.

One of the residents, Miss W, said that police dashed out from two police cars and cordoned off the area while intercepting a young man holding a "Liberate Hong Kong Revolution of our Times" flag.

Onlookers pointed out that an officer accompanied by a police dog seemed irate. At one point, he yelled at the civilians, "Shut up, or [I will unleash the dog to] bite you!"

Later, more riot police arrived for reinforcement and intercepted a reporter who was broadcasting a live interview. They snatched away the reporter's phone and ordered him to keep his hands down, saying “what if you hurt a police officer as you wave your hand. Shut up and don’t argue.”

Inception: China's Control Over "Pandemic"

"Just as WHO chief Dr. Tedros, or China's best ally, still claims that there is no “pandemic”, Germany Minister of Health Jens Spahn does not seem to have time for a joke, as cases of Wuhan pneuminia are rising in Europe.

Meanwhile, WHO continues to put emphasis on how the daily confirmed cases in China are outnumbered by those outside.

When China's territory is considered confidential by the Beijing, what could not be a state secret in China? Perhaps the confirmed cases of Wuhan pneumonia?"

Inception: China's Control Over "Pandemic"

Even when the pandemic is raging in China, the regime continues to hypnotize the world regarding its productiveness as the world’s factory where work does not cease under any circumstance.

This may remind one of the sit-com Friends (Season 6, Episode 13), where Monica still wished to seduce Chandler after catching a flu. She then used so many ways to make herself attractive despite being sick.

Indeed, China is doing something quite similar: This is, for instance, by hiring different international experts to praise the country's anti-epidemic measures. China's own veteran medical expert Zhong Nanshan also tries hard to persuade the world that the coronavirus did not originate from China, although it first appeared in China.

Just as WHO chief Dr. Tedros, or China's best ally, still claims that there is no “pandemic”, Germany's Minister of Health Jens Spahn does not seem to have time for any joke, as cases of Wuhan pneuminia are rising in Europe. Meanwhile, WHO continues to put emphasis on how the daily confirmed cases in China are outnumbered by those outside. When China's territory is considered confidential by the Beijing, what could not be a state secret in China? Perhaps the confirmed cases of Wuhan pneumonia?

In any case, China obviously has many allies working in the field of epidemiology, just as Dr. Bruce Aylward had expressed his wish to undergo treatment in China if he happens to have caught the deadly coronavirus.

Quite coincidentally, Reuters pointed out in a recent report that scientific articles about the Wuhan pneumonia vary in quality even when published in international journals. It is perhaps noteworthy that more than half of these papers came from Chinese researchers and research centers in China.

Has the Chinese government been too enthusiastic in funding Wuhan-Pneumonia-related research? Did the researchers follow academic ethics when conducting their analyses? Are political pressure and financial interest the determining factors in drawing conclusion? We’ll let the readers to decide the answers.

Faith in Unrelenting Pro-democracy Movement in Everyday Life

There are many ways to express affection, from saying "Hi" to inquiring "are you safe", and now we ask each other, "do you have enough masks?"

Not that we have too many masks to give away, but because we don't want to see those we care to suffer misfortune.

Some say the anti-extradition law movement seems to have disappeared; on the contrary, it is ongoing every day in various formats, ranging from "lunch with you", the "yellow economic circle", supporting the detainees to visiting the arrestees.

Some arrested complained about not receiving letters; no one has ever visited them. The reality is when the arrestees are on court bail, we keep them company, at times, we may also be worried, or distressed, or saddened to see court closure due to Coronavirus outbreak, causing longer wait for detainees.

We cannot go back.

The movement has not disappeared as things are still happening every day. We will not forget, and we refuse to get used to injustice. Some people want to go back to old-time Hong Kong, but "we can't go back", we have suffered mentally and physically. The injury we suffer every time will help us grow, not regress, such that we can be discouraged, disappointed, but we should not despair.

"Five Demands Not one Less" and "Go together Leave together" are not merely protest slogans, but our faith in the movement.

HK Government Awards Quarantine Center Construction Contract to China State-owned Company Without Tending Process

Instead of completely closing the borders with China, the Hong Kong Government continued to build temporary quarantine facilities in the city. A government plat at Penny Bay with a contract worth HKD190 million was awarded to China Habour Engineering, by-passing regular tendering process.

China Habour Engineering is a subsidiary of China Communications Construction, a PRC state-owned enterprise.

Hong Kong government officials claimed that awarding contracts without the regular tendering process was necessary due to the "urgency of the project" and insisted that the process complied with relevant rules.

Legislative Council Member, Chu Hoi-dick challenged the government's decision, as any project exceeding HKD30,000,000 will need the approval of the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council on a case-by-case basis. Therefore, the government is suspected of violating the law and breaching the independence of the three arms of the administration.

Head of Radiology at Princess Margaret Hospital Resigns and Refuses to Provide List of Employees on Strike

The Hospital Authority Employees Alliance (#HKEA) initiated a 5-day strike in early February and demanded a “complete shutdown of the border” to stop the spread of the coronavirus to Hong Kong from China.

On 25 Feb, the Hospital Authority wrote to all employees who took leave demanding an explanation for their absence which caused dissatisfaction among the medical staff.

According to the source, the Head of Radiology Department of the Princess Margaret Hospital refused to provide a list of the staff who participated in the strike and might have tendered his resignation from his position as the head of the department.

The Hospital Authority states that they will not comment any human resources arrangements on individual employees. According to the source, the hospital is trying to convince him to stay as Head of Radiology. The Hospital Authority spokesperson also said that staff will not be dismissed due to their participation in the strike.

China Conceals Coronavirus Cases by Destroying Samples and Test Results

According to media outlets in China, the Chinese authorities have been covering up details into Wuhan pneumonia, for instance, by stopping tests and destroying samples of new coronavirus.

On January 1, a staff member of a genetic sequencing company received an order from the Hubei province health care committee to suspend analysis of the new coronavirus; moreover, samples should be disposed of and no information should be released externally. The government officer demanded, "all new Coronavirus cases should be reported directly to the state."

On January 3, the General Office of China's National Health and Health Commission cascaded similar directives.

It has been six months since the 831 incident took place Prince Edward MTR station. Both the police and the MTR have been evasive in their responses, whether it was excessive use of police force or indiscriminate arrest, they owe Hongkongers a full account.

Today (February 28) civilians spontaneously held a memorial ceremony in Kwun Tong, assuring the victims of the incident that HongKonger will not forget their sacrifice nor suffering. Just as we will not forget the brutalities of police, we will not give up and stand together in our pursuit of justice.
