Hong Kong Government to Beijing : Carry Out Political Retribution on Medical Staff

The recent epidemic report submitted by the Chief Executiveā€™s Office to the Central Government has specifically mentioned the largest medical staff strike in Hong Kong history. The report described the medical union that initiated the strike as ā€œblack sheepā€. They were also falsely labeled as affiliated with anti-extradition protestors. It was also mentioned in the report that the government has demanded the Hospital Authority to take action against those who organized the strike, stating that these ā€œblack sheep should not be allowed to continue working in the hospitalsā€.

In the submitted report, the Chief Executiveā€™s Office criticized the unionā€™s demand to close the border, saying it was only a ā€œsloganā€ and that many citizens were being misled in forming this mainstream opinion. The report mentioned that the SAR government has refused to be involved, and that Chief Executive Carrie Lam has turned down meetings with unions. They emphasized SAR governmentā€™s strong stance by reiterating they will not enforce a total border shutdown, will not impose travel restrictions on mainland residents and will respect mainland authorities in handling immigration matters.

Ivan Law, the Vice-Chairman of the HA Employees Alliance criticized the report as not reflecting the facts and believed that it was meant to discredit the union. He pointed out a few false descriptions in the report: that the reason for terminating the strike was not due to public dissatisfaction; the reason for the strike was not political; and the demand for border shutdown was not discriminatory against mainland citizens.

Law stated that although the members of the union were prepared to face political retribution and funds have been reserved to aid those members on strike. He said he ā€œdid not expect that the government would issue a written statement explicitly asking the Hospital Authority to take action against striking members.ā€

Former SARS Fighter Criticiszed HKSAR Government for not Learning from the Past Tragedy

Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of CUHK Leung Ping-chung, who fighted against SARS in 2003, pointed out that the government did not learn from the experience back then and make comprehensive plans before the epidemic attacked our city.

Leung stated, ā€There had yet been the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, but only the Pearl River Delta 17 years ago. There were fewer ports in the Pearl River Delta, but the Delta resembled the current Greater Bay Area. Thus, it was advised that Hong Kong government should cooperate with the mainland to establish guidelines on joint efforts to intercept travellers and to fight against the epidemic, and such guidance will benefit everyone in the Pearl River Delta. However, for the moment, no such measure was implemented. Each government just goes on its own way.ā€

Money speaks louder than humanity:
World Photography Awards remove Hong Kong protest images raise speculations about self-censorship

Hong Kong artist Chung-Ming Ko entered finalist round of 2020 Sony World Photography Awards with his works ā€œWounds of Hong Kong.ā€ However, on #Feb14, he found the link to his collection was broken, who went on and discovered two more series ā€œBattleground Hong Kongā€ by American photographer David Butow and ā€œHong Kong Protestorsā€ by Australian artist Adam Ferguson were disappeared. The WPO defended the decision, in an initial reply to inquiries, by saying they were taken down temporarily over the ā€œsensitive natureā€ of his images.

The edited series was uploaded, with only four left out of the original series of 10 pictures. Ko bewailed the decision by the judges. ā€œI donā€™t know whoā€™s complaining and what their concerns are. But why should any ā€˜concernsā€™ not be addressed by the judges at the judging phase?ā€ asked Ko in a response to Hong Kong Free Press. Nevertheless, he still hoped to share his photos in Hong Kong (now numbered at 20). ā€œIf WPO couldnā€™t release these Hong Kong protest-related photos for now, I hoped to share it here,ā€ he said on his Facebook Page.

Ironically, photojournalist Mustafa Hassona won 3rd place in last yearā€™s WPO by ā€œPalestinian Right of Return Protestsā€, which captured moments in the Palestinian movement.

Meanwhile, Title Sponsor of WPO Sony Corporation, hardly-battered over accusations of self-censorship, issued a statement that affirms that although Sony is the title sponsor, the contest was operated by the WPO independently.

Hysterical Riot Police Point Pepper Spray at Civilians in a Park on Sunday

According to Stand News, a Tuen Mun District Councillor asked to see the police commander on the scene, not only that the riot police ignored him, one of the officers even accused him for being delusional.

The riot police later pointed pepper-spray at civilians and reporters, and broke into the crowd, causing chaos while shouting hysterically, ā€œdonā€™t touch my stick (the pepper spray)!".

Whilst no conflict was taking place, riot police losing their temper appeared to be psychologically unstable and behaved hysterically.
