Public Hospital cuts down N95 mask supply, causing fear among medical staff for higher risk of Coronavirus infection

There are "invisible patients of Wuhan Pneumonia" in Hong Kong, yet the provision of protective gears in public hospitals has been shrinking.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is suspected of banning frontline staff from wearing N95 masks for colonoscopy and gastroscopy examination, causing deep concerns on the growing risks of infection.

Medics pointed out that the faeces of Wuhan pneumonia patients may carry coronavirus, coupled with the fact that in public hospitals, gastroscopy examination is conducted without anaesthetic. In any case, if an invisible patient coughs during the examination, conducting gastroscopy and colonoscopy without proper protective gear pose a high risk of infection.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital did not respond directly to the matter, only saying that public hospitals had developed guidelines for using masks.

Li Ka Shing Foundation ordered N95 filter masks for medical staff in Hong Kong.

Since the Hong Kong government has been incapable of proscuring masks for the population, the problem of mask shortage persisted in Hong Kong.

From political groups, NGO, restaurants to individuals, those who managed to source masks distributed masks, sometimes, for free and sometimes, at a cost.

While the borders with China remain open, the demand for masks would continue in Hong Kong.

COVID-19: The Spectre That Haunts China

By institutionalizing "Xi Jinping thought" and enshrining it in foreign policy, the political regime run by the Chinese Communist Party operates on, according to their own words, "the lack of respect towards scientific data and the draconian checks within the Chinese system."

In a similar vein, the ever-changing reporting criteria for the coronavirus epitomizes China's arbitrary 'standard'. The imprecision, or the intended inaccuracy, allows government officials to shrug off their accountability and the party members to carry out their political agendas.

Therefore, the most transparent and thorough set of data of the Wuhan pneumonia can only be obtained outside China. This is, for instance, the statistics from the Diamond Princess Cruise which has been anchored in Yokohama, Japan since February 4, 2020.

While the world is discussing whether the statistics released by PRC's health authorities and WHO's stance are in favour of China, Xi Jinping gave a rather clear answer in his political order that no anti-epidemic measures should put pressure on the PRC's economic workings.

As German scientists and researchers found that the Wuhan Pneumonia virus could survive on object surfaces for up to several days, this increases the uncertainty of the prospect of China exports. When China's economy depends very much on exports, which province would report itself as a epidemic area, when this might preveny foreign countries from trading with China. Under these circumstances, the already shaky Chinese data only loses its credibility further in the omnipresence of political order.

Likewise, the Hong Kong government, which does not possess any diplomatic powers, had cojoined Beijing to condemn countries like Italy for the refusal of PRC national's entry during the coronavirus outbreak. Demonstrating this failed opportunism is also the Hong Kong government's rejection of foreign reporters' and scholars' entry into Hong Kong since the Anti-extradition Law Movement in June 2019.

To a large extent, in comtemporary Chinese political culture dialectical idealism has overriden dialectical materialism, contrary to the Marxist philosophy supposedly followed by the Chinese Communist Party.

"Everything is possible as long as you believe in it": This may summarize the general attitude held by all Chinese Communist Party officials on matters of fighting the epidemic and their political principles.

Growing Anti-Chinese sentiments in Europe amidst the Wuhan Coronavirus storm

(07 Feb) Half Vietnamese-Cambodian Sana (phonetic translation) grew up in Paris. This day she got on a bus as usual but attracted disgusting looks and insults from passengers on board. "There is a Chinese woman on the bus! She is going to infect us. She should not go outside. She should have stayed at home!" A passenger told others. People stared at her like she was a virus carrier. No one was willing to speak up for her.

Not long ago, there were reports that a Chinese tourist was spat at in Venice. Korean student Sumin Hwang, 23 year old, and other Asian students were suspended by Conservatorio Santa Cecilia di Roma. A petition in Canada was signed by more than 10,000 people demanding Chinese students to stay off the campus. Advice like "do not to go to Asian supermarkets and restaurants" went viral on social media. A British student wrote to The Guardian stating the currently rampant racism in the United Kingdom was "worse than the virus". Chinatowns in Europe became "the source of virus" that locals should try to avoid.

This is a horror story, this is a miserable story - Diary of a Wuhan woman

A Wuhan woman recorded her daily life from the very early days of the CoViD-19 outbreak to the beginning of February. It has been verified by the media and the local hospital that events described in this diary are true. The author of the blog did not include any of his personal commentary or opinion.

Presented are simply words describing the changes brought upon an ordinary family by this epidemic. Readers may experience rather powerful emotions invoked by her haunting words.

Hubei Film Studio director family almost all gone

(16 Feb) Hubei Film Studio director #Chang Kai died on 14 Feb from WARS. His father passed away on 27 Jan and his mother, on 2 Feb. Chang Kai's sister and Chang Kai both passed on the 14 Feb. Currently, his wife is in intensive care. Only his son was spared as he studied abroad.

Director Chang Kai‘s Last Words

Following the decree, on New Year's Eve, our banquet at the luxury hotel was cancelled. I was, then, in charge of cooking and enjoyed our meal with my parents and wife.

We were unaware of the incoming nightmares. On New Year's Day, my father had a fever, started coughing and had difficulty breathing. We went to multiple hospitals, requesting treatment; no beds were available to take him in. Disappointed, we went home to fend for ourselves, demonstrating filial piety before his deathbed and counting down his days. Our mother became mentally and physically exhausted. Her immune system shut down. She eventually followed our father.

Several days of tending to my parents on their deathbeds permitted the ruthless coronavirus to devour my wife's and my bodies. I went to various hospitals to beg for a bed but because of my insignificant social status, my words carried little weight. The scarcity of beds deprived my opportunity for treatment. With my dying breath, I tell my relatives, friends, and son who is currently in the UK: Throughout my life, I have fulfilled my role as a son, father, and husband as honestly as I could be! To those I love and those who love me, farewell!
