Truth behind terrifying 'new' map showing potential coronavirus spread

The map was tweeted by the World Pop Project, the data research centre based at the University of Southampton who conducted the study describing how the coronavirus may spread beyond China. The photo didn't appear in the actual study.

The World Pop Project then clarified that the photo was "simply intended to be an illustrative picture of the global air network". World Pop Project's study was then tweeted again on February 7 with a different graphic that showed the volume of travellers to each country after the coronavirus outbreak.

As the new coronavirus continues to rage across China, some experts say information control by the Chinese government could be a contributing factor.

They argue that the central and local governments have prevented key information from reaching the public, keeping the Chinese people in the dark about how widespread the infection really is. This has made it difficult to put proper preventive measures in place.

Professor Ichiro Korogi, an expert in Chinese politics at the Kanda University of International Studies, says the government might have intentionally withheld information about the infection for the sake of political stability.

In fact, media reports say measures against the new coronavirus were not on the agenda at the Congress. As a result, no sense of crisis was shared with the public, allowing a traditional event called Wan Jia Yan, attended by tens of thousands, to go ahead in Wuhan on 18 as scheduled.

Editor's note: The national anthem of PRC, “March of the Volunteers” is actually a revolutionary song. The lyrics of the song is about standing up and resisting the enemies, which is encouraging and motivational. It is quite ironic to see Chinese netizens using the lyrics of their own national anthem to show their dissentience towards the authority which tried to cover up the outbreak of WARS, but turns out to be banned.

Granny rather wears home-made napkin mask, saving medical masks and disinfectants for family members

On February 13, over 300 seniors rallied to the Government House, the Chief Executive's residence, urging Carrie Lam to explain the actual usage of filter masks made by prisoners in Hong Kong.

A 70-year old granny Chan, despite wearing a home-made napkin mask, commuted a long way from Yuen Long to Chater Garden in Central to join the rally. She explained that her daughter had given her masks and disinfectants, which she refused to use. Seeing the shortage of supply, Chan would rather want her daughter to keep those masks for her own family as a priority.

Chan added that she had queued up for masks for more than 1.5 hours but for nothing in the end. Chan pointed out that she just could not afford any expensive masks in the market. The Hong Kong government has not offered any masks.

Valentine's Day 2020: We Have Each Other

We have spent the latter half of 2019 shrouded in clouds of tear gas. We wear masks and even gas masks to show our defiance against the unelected government and the police state.

We have spent most days of 2020 in the midst of an omnipresent novel coronavirus. Ever since Lunar New Year up until Valentine's Day today, we still have to wear masks, even when we want to kiss our dearest ones.

Against all odds, the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong will live on and the people of Hong Kong will continue the battle against authoritarianiam.

While thinking of your loved ones, never forget the protesters in Hong Kong fighting for human rights, democracy and freedom— no matter where you are from, we are all Hong Kongers.
