PolyU Students' Union President: Humanitarian Crisis Arises as Many were Injured on Campus

During the police siege of the Polytechnic University (PolyU) on November 18, police closed off all campus exits and trapped thousands inside PolyU since 7pm.

The PolyU Students' Union President Derek Liu states that, many people on campus are injured: around 3 people were wounded in the eye and 40 experienced hypothermia from the water cannon attack. Since many medical personnels had been arrested by the police, supplies and human resources are not enough to handle the situation.

The student union made attempts to communicate with the University management, but has not received any response so far. Liu declares that PolyU is experiencing its greatest danger since its establishment 80 years ago, arising to the level of a humanitarian crisis. Liu urges all of Hong Kong to protect students at PolyU.

Management from CityU blocks Hi-Bye Bridge to prevent it's own students from entering

0940 City University
To prevent students from walking on the bridge, the school sent officers this morning to block hi-bye bridge, the linkage between the main campus and the dormitories. To prevent any arguments, representatives of Student Residence Office and Facilities Management Office stressed that the school sealed off all exits and entrances of the bridge out of safety concerns. However, when reporters asked about when the arrangement would end, the representatives said that they didn’t know. The representatives also evaded answering whether students are allowed to live in the dormitories, who only explained that an entrance was opened for student residents to pack their personal belongings.

Testament of Entrapped PolyU Students: A Message to All People of Hong Kong

We have nowhere to retreat to.

The eighth day of siege by Devilcops. We are prisoners in our own school.

Our friends outside are anxious for us. We are, however, in amiable beatitude.

In blood and tears, we protect our school from Devilcops. How are we wrong?

Yet the university head and management board, who are supposed to protect us, called on the police to have their students arrested with their own hands.

We shall fight till the end, to bear witness to how a school can push its students into the abyss.

Give us freedom or give us death.

We are not afraid of arrests or death, because history acquitted us all.

Journalists tried to leave from Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)’s exit for relay, policemen raised the gun and try to shoot

1035 | A lot of civilians still remained in PolyU. Policemen told the press that if any journalists want to relay, they can go to a specific location and change one by one, but when journalists tried to go to the designated area, a riot police raised his gun and pointed at the journalist, and asked them to raise up their hands.

4 journalists could be seen trying to relay with their colleagues at 09:00 at the specific exit, but they were pointed at gunpoint by a riot police, commanding them to raise up their hands and go forward to the Police Cordon line. They checked the journalists’ identity cards and press cards. A journalist from RTHK tried to explain that he wanted to go to the relay area but the policemen rejected his request and asked him to leave. He was even pointed at gunpoint at a short distance.

On the other hand, some riot police stopped two other journalists from RTHK when they were passing through the Cross-Harbour Tunnel nearby to enter PolyU. They were asked to stop recording and switch off their video camera. The policemen recounted to the journalists that they will be charged of riots as long as they are inside PolyU.
