NOBEL PRIZE IN CHEMISTRY.
A Tiny “Mirror Image” Molecule — and a Big Mystery About Life!
Imagine your left and right hands. They look almost identical, but you cannot perfectly place one over the other. Some molecules behave the same way: they exist in two forms that are mirror images of each other, called enantiomers.
The 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has recognized Henri B. Kagan and Kenso Soai for important work that helped scientists understand and control this fascinating “handedness” of molecules.
The truly remarkable part?
A tiny initial imbalance between two mirror-image forms can sometimes be amplified through chemical reactions. In Soai's research, certain molecules can even help produce more molecules with the same handedness—a process known as asymmetric autocatalysis.
Why does this matter?
Our bodies contain many molecules with a specific molecular “hand.” In medicine, the two mirror-image forms of a compound can sometimes behave very differently in the human body.
And this leads to an even bigger

Canadian poet, essayist and translator Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the latest recipient of one of the world's most prestigious literary honours.
The Swedish Academy announced the award on Thursday, October 8, recognising the 76-year-old writer for her innovative approach to literature and her ability to transform classical traditions into new forms of contemporary writing.
Born in Toronto in 1950, Carson is known for breaking conventional boundaries between poetry, fiction, essays and translation. Her writing frequently draws inspiration from ancient Greek mythology, philosophy and literature while exploring modern experiences of love, desire, grief and identity.
Among her most celebrated works are *Autobiography of Red*, *The Beauty of the Husband*, *Eros the Bittersweet* and *Norma Jeane Baker of Troy*. Her experimental storytelling has earned her widespread international recognition.
Carson has also received several major literary honours, including the T. S. Eliot Prize, along with Guggenheim and MacArthur fellowships.
The Nobel Prize comes with an award of 12 million Swedish kronor, approximately $1.2 million. Carson is expected to receive her medal and diploma at the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm this December.
Her victory marks a significant moment for contemporary poetry and experimental literature, celebrating a writer whose work has consistently challenged traditional storytelling.

#WorldArthritisDay
World Arthritis Day is observed on Oct 12. The goal of the day is to promote awareness about the effect & existence of musculoskeletal disorders.
Around the world, World Arthritis Day is observed on October 12. The goal of the day is to promote awareness about the effect and existence of musculoskeletal, which includes bones, muscles, ligaments, and soft tissue, and rheumatic disorders, which are autoimmune and inflammatory illnesses that damage muscles, joints, and organs.
As people get older, they confront a variety of physical difficulties, with arthritis being one of the most frequent. As a result, World Arthritis Day (WAD) is observed to raise awareness and educate people about the condition that causes joint difficulties.
