A couple from the state of Maharashtra sold their one-month-old son for ₹120,000 (~₽105,000) ( $1,245.78 USD) in order to buy two cell phones and a gold necklace.

The baby was resold three more times, with the price increasing each time.

Local police found the child alive and arrested seven people.
