What is widely discussed about TON today?

Telegram Open Network is a next-generation blockchain platform. Pavel and Nikolai Durov created the TON concept in 2018 and then proceeded with development together with the team.

Unfortunately, in May 2020 Pavel closed the project.

However, our team’s contribution (open-source community) did not stop there. Since that "X-day" we have supported the platform and have continued the development. A month ago, we published an open request to the Telegram team, where we told them about our successes in working on TON. We also asked the Telegram team to provide us the domain ton.org and the repository github.com/ton-blockchain, since they no longer needed it.

The developers have agreed to our request!

Now we are the TON team. The only, non-fake, official one!

Our goal is to merge all existing blockchains into a new unified network. We want to turn the TON ecosystem into a real Web 3.0-Internet with decentralized storage, anonymous network, instant payments, and familiar convenient services.

We believe that TON is the Internet of the future, the next-generation Internet!

Certainly, the goal is ambitious. However, our enthusiasm is even greater 😎. We're working 24/7 on the TON ecosystem, and we're in a rush to share our success.

Elements of the ecosystem that are already functioning:

- TON Blockchain.

It's a scalable, multi-blockchain platform capable of processing millions of transactions per second.

- TON Services.

Third-party service platform. It allows you to create friendly, intuitive interfaces for decentralized applications and smart contracts. It also allows for decentralized web browsing.

Elements of the ecosystem we are still working on:

- TON Payments. 90% ready.

TON Payments is a platform for micropayments and a micropayment channel network. It can be used for instant off-chain value transfers between users, bots, and other services. Safeguards built into the system ensure that these transfers are as secure as on-chain transactions.

- TON DNS. 90% ready.

TON DNS makes blockchain mainstream by assigning human-readable names to accounts, smart contracts, services, and network nodes. With TON DNS browsing, blockchain becomes similar to surfing the World Wide Web. Working with blockchain will become as easy as surfing the Internet.

- TON Proxy. 75% ready.

This is a universal encryption shell for TON nodes, similar to an I2P network. It allows to develop decentralized VPN and TOR services for online privacy. TON Proxy, combined with elements of the TON DNS and TON P2P ecosystem, allows decentralized applications to protect themselves forever from centralized censorship.

- TON Storage. 50% ready.

P2P network, a distributed file storage technology. It's simply like the best version of Dropbox available. Torrent-like technology that will allow you to store and transfer large amounts of data. This technology has enormous potential!

- TON Workchains. 50% ready.

Today there is a wide variety of operating blockchains that are loosely connected to one another. Current attempts to use Bridging to establish interaction between them leave much to be desired in terms of both performance and decentralization levels. TON design will allow pooling all existing blockchains into a unified decentralized network.

TON consists of the masterchain and up to 2^32 workchains with different rulesets, i.e. different formats of account addresses and transactions, virtual machines for smart contracts and basic cryptocurrencies, etc. Yet, workchains can still interact using consistent basic rules.

This is just a brief description of the elements of the TON ecosystem. In reality, they are much deeper, more interesting, and larger than that.

On the channel, we'll talk about each of them in detail. We'll show how they can be useful for developers and crypto-enthusiasts, as well as for ordinary users.

Stay tuned! This is the beginning of a new TON era😎

What is Blockchain?

You need to urgently change your mind if you think blockchain is nothing more than a buzzword everybody is talking about! Here's a simple breakdown of the technology and why it's called the Internet of the Future.

Where is today's Web located?

It is stored on different servers. YouTube videos, for example, are stored on Google's servers. Your lunch and dinner information is stored on Grub Hub servers. Your passport information is stored on the government’s servers.

Servers are some kind of centralized hubs that store, process and transmit information.

Blockchain technology allows you to get rid of these data hubs completely, and make the internet decentralized - that's why it is sometimes called the internet of the future, or Web 3.0.

Here's how it works:

Blockchain stores all recorded information within data blocks. Miners create and maintain these blocks. You can read more about miners in the following article.

As opposed to a single centralized data hub, blockchain data is simultaneously stored among the network of a huge network of independent databases.

Let's try to imagine: you have a flash drive with your favorite photos recorded on it. This flash drive then suddenly crashes and your photos are lost forever.

In blockchain, this situation is eliminated because there are hundreds of thousands of people with the same flash drive, and destroying one of them does not affect anything.

Blocks cannot be deleted or changed (unlike conventional databases). When information appears in a block, it stays there forever. Each new block contains a link to the previous block, so actions within the network can be tracked at any time.

For example, someone had given you 1 Toncoin and you accidentally transferred that coin to your best friend.

In this case, coin ownership will remain with your friend forever (unless he sends the coin elsewhere), since all these transactions are recorded on a huge network of computers, they are immutable.

That is why decentralized ecosystems offer a lot of possibilities! We'll tell you what to expect from them in the next post.

Right now there are a lot of blockchains in the world, and they have almost no connection among each other or among centralized networks.

The goal of TON is to connect all of them into a single ecosystem and create a true Web 3.0

Breaking news!

Friends, you can NOW buy Toncoin on the EXMO exchange. The Exchange has recently announced the listing of TON. Today trading has finally started.

🔥🔥🔥

Here is EXMO deposit memo:

- Be sure to download the latest version of the wallet from ton.org/wallets.

- Don't use the mobile wallet for the next 2-3 days. It encrypts the message, as a result, the exchange would not be able to process the deposit. We'll let you know right away as soon as the mobile wallet will start working.

- Desktop versions and web wallets are fine, you can use them.

- During the deposit, paste the invoice number as the transfer’s comment. Otherwise, your deposit would not be processed!

- Make sure that the transfer confirmation window in your wallet definitely states the following: "Note: your comment will not be encrypted". This is important because EXMO exchange only accepts transfers with unencrypted comments.

Congratulations to the TON Foundation. Congratulations to all subscribers as well 😎

Looking forward to TON Coin being listed on other exchanges, it's a good start!

Unpleasant news has arrived.

On August 10, TON Venture Studio LTD (owned by FreeTON project which is itself funded by TONLabs) filed a complaint to Apple against a mobile wallet developed by one of the members of the TON community.

The subject of the complaint is the following: it violates Venture Studio's registered trademarks of TON and TON Wallet 😕.

However, TON Community's wallet is called Toncoin Wallet, not TON Wallet at all.

So here's the interesting thing, folks:

TON blockchain was designed and developed by the Telegram team. At the same time, TON Venture Studio LTD, which has nothing to do with Telegram, registered the project's trademark.

Now they are trying to use it for a corporate war with the ACTUALLY decentralized TON network, a direct successor of the Durov brother's work.

This raises a couple of questions to ask yourself:

1. Can a network be called decentralized if one of its members (TON Labs) owns the project's trademark and uses it for legal actions, without discussing anything with the project's community?

2. Is such action in line with the spirit of decentralized networks?

We will keep you informed.

What is PoS?

In this post we are talking about the Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm and discussing its main disadvantages:

- The model is NOT environmentally friendly because it is enormously energy-consuming.

The PoS (Proof-of-Stake) algorithm does not have this limitation. Today we're going to talk about it in more detail.

PoS blockchain functionality is maintained by validators - cryptocurrency owners. They verify user transactions, and if 2/3 of validators agree that the transaction is correct - it is included in a new blockchain block.

The Validators only do productive work (verification) without any number crunching (as in PoW). As a result, they don't have the same performance race as miners.

Nevertheless, for the network to work well and fast, validators must run the software on very powerful hardware, with a constant 24/7 network connection and a wide bandwidth Internet channel. It won't run on a laptop computer.

How it works:

The Validator pledges their coins to the protocol to participate in the validation process. It doesn't need to "mine" blocks. It only needs to create blocks and verify the blocks of other validators.

The validator is rewarded when each transaction has proceeded. In case the Validator is found to have cheated the network, he will be punished and a portion of the deposit will be taken away.

Major currency holders have an advantage using POS:

Validators with the largest stakes are assigned by the network more frequently to validate blocks. At the same time, rewards are distributed in proportion to the number of validated blocks.

The mechanism is set up in such a way that users with a smaller pledge could also participate in the validation process to receive rewards.

The main advantage of PoS is speed.

Many PoW blockchains (like Bitcoin) will never be able to process transactions as fast as PoS blockchains. And speed is a key factor for a network that wants to be the Internet of the future.

TON is also using PoS algorithm and anyone can become a validator.

We'll post a tutorial on how to do it soon!

Hello, friends! Developers have just launched the TON-Ethereum bridge.🥳

Previously the bridge had been running in a test mode. On Saturday it became available to all users.

Now you can freely transfer Toncoin between TON and the Ethereum networks. Here is the link - ton.org/bridge.

There is only one restriction: transfers are available from 10 coins.

The ERC-20 Toncoin smart-contract address can be found at ton.org/coin.

In the coming days, we will tell you more about the bridge operating structure 💎.

What are Blockchain Bridges?

Our educational blockchain project moves forward and today we are talking about bridges.

It wouldn’t be correct to start with discussing the TON-Ethereum Bridge, because many of our subscribers don’t even know the actual meaning of the term «bridges», so let's get some theory!

First of all! Most blockchains have no way of communicating with each other.

Let's say, you are a developer of a decentralized app. In this case, you'll have to choose one of the existing blockchains and operate within its isolated environment.

For example, Ethereum has popular decentralized exchanges but only Ethereum network tokens are traded there.

So, what if you want to transfer a Toncoin from TON network to Ethereum to use it within existing financial services?

Bridge is the answer.

How does it work?

Bridge — is a link between two blockchains. The aim of a bridge is to transfer tokens from one network to another.

A transfer usually occurs according to the mint-and-burn principle. This implies a process where a token, when leaving a chain is locked and its equivalent is minted in another chain. Thus, one Toncoin in Ethereum blockchain always equals one Toncoin in TON blockchain.

Who manages a bridge?

A bridge works the same way as a decentralized mini-blockchain. TON networks’ validators elect oracles who administrate the bridge. To be elected, every oracle bonds significant investments. If appointed oracle cheats, they won't receive their deposit back.

Every transfer is charged with commission — it is the honest oracles' fee for maintaining a bridge.

The mission of TON is to unite all major blockchains into a single network.

In this case, TON will become a «super-bridge», which will allow it to perform different value transactions between blockchains besides the usual transfer of coins between networks.

We can already use the TON-Ethereum bridge, while the developers do their best to solve this ambitious task and unite all other blockchains.

The bridge is accessible at this link - ton.org/bridge

More details concerning a bridge and oracle’s function will be coming soon on our channel!

TONEthereum Bridge: How does it work?

Hello, everyone! In our previous publication, we defined the meaning of blockchain bridges and their functions.

Today, we’re going to discuss the TON–Ethereum Bridge and find out what it can do.

It can transfer Toncoin to the Ethereum blockchain and back.

How it works:

TON ➡️ Ethereum:

💎 A user sends coins to a special TON smart contract.

💎 These coins get frozen.

💎 A special smart contract on Ethereum produces the same amount of coins and sends them to the user’s wallet.

Attention! Toncoin is the native crypto of the TON blockchain, while Wrapped Toncoin is its Ethereum equivalent. Please, don’t confuse the two!

Thus, 1 Toncoin is always equal to 1 Wrapped Toncoin on Ethereum.

Ethereum ➡️ TON:

💎 A user sends Wrapped Toncoin to the special smart contract on the Ethereum network.

💎 These Wrapped Toncoin are burned.

💎 The TON smart contract produces the same amount of Toncoin and sends it to the user’s wallet.

As you can see, the total amount of coins is unchanged.

The bridge operating method:

The bridge itself is a decentralized network. It is operated by oracles according to the PoS principle.

💎 To become an oracle, it’s necessary to run custom software on a powerful computer. A server capable of working 24/7 is needed — so, a basic PC is not an option.

💎 An oracle deposits a significant amount of coins to a bridge’s smart contract.

💎 After that, TON validators vote for or against the specified candidate.

💎 The oracles’ purpose is to approve transactions in a bridge’s smart contract. At least 2/3 of oracles should give the approval to validate a transfer.

💎 They receive some fee for their work.

If an oracle tries to cheat (for example, to specify an incorrect transaction sum), other oracles can vote to remove them from the oracles list.

The cheater will NEVER get their deposit back and their coins will be shared among the other oracles.
The validator who voted for the cheater’s inclusion may also be fined.

Overview:

— TON—Ethereum Bridge operates according to the decentralized principle.

— The bridge is highly protected.

Please, beware of fake bridges: You can find the smart contract ERC-20 Wrapped Toncoin address at ton.org/coin.

As for the bridge, it is available for everyone at ton.org/bridge

Hello, everyone 💎

Dear friends, there was some misunderstanding in the comments because some subscribers gave wrong answers to some of the questions.

To avoid some mistruths we selected the most BURNING questions and wrote a form of FAQ 😎

1. «How is it connected to Durov and the team of Telegram? Are you not concerned with them and is it just hype?»

💎 We’ve never stated that the project belongs to Pavel Durov or Telegram.

💎 The Open Network however is an immediate heir of TON, which was produced by the Durovs brothers. The Telegram team transferred the ton.org domain and the repository github.com/ton-blockchain to @tonblockchain developers.

Proofs:

— The first one: you can find the links in this post
— The second one: the article at CoinDesk

💎 Telegram uncompromisingly puts the red SCAM lable on all the channels that illegally try to cling to the messenger’s team. As you can see our channel is not "scammed " and we have thousands of subscribers.

2. «I bought these coins a year ago but the project got closed and I lost my money.»

You definitely bought a different coin with a similar name.

Our crypto became available for purchase recently. There're some similarly named tokens out there, but you need to buy Toncoin, so don't get confused.

In case you purchase TONCOIN in Ethereum blockchain, check the smart-contract address at ton.org/coin.

3. What's the actual price of the token?

The most convenient way to track is at https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/toncoin/.

4. How to buy?

Please, read the guide.

5. What are the current issues today? How many coins are in use?

The total supply of TON is 5 billion with the current annual inflation rate of 0,6% (for validators). Not yet mined ~60 million. This sum may be mined using POW.

6. Who are the largest coin holders?

Validators (read more here) and primary miners are the largest holders. The coins are shared among 78 000 network users.

7. Is there an option to verify the coin holders?

Yes! TON is a public blockchain. It means that you can check everyone's wallet address balance. The easiest way to do it is here.

If you have any questions — write in the comments 💎
