Pixel 9 series devices will charge faster. Leaked new charging brick.

Leaked reports from Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC) have revealed the appearance of Google's new 45W charging brick (model code: GW8L7). Compared to the previous 30-watt adapter, the new version will also get an updated design with rounded shapes.

The NCC reports also revealed approximate charging speeds, but the actual values from the spec sheet are still unknown. For example, the 9 Pro XL is reported to have 32.76W, which suggests that the advertised charging speed will be at least 35W (vs. 30W in the Pixel 8 Pro).

The battery capacities of all models have also been revealed:

• Pixel 9: 4558 mAh
• Pixel 9 Pro: 4558 mAh
• Pixel 9 Pro XL: 4942 mAh
• Pixel 9 Pro Fold: 4560 mAh (1183 mAh + 3377 mAh)

🤖 Google has released Android 15 Beta 3.1 with lock screen bug fixes. Two weeks after the release of Android 15 Beta 3, Google is releasing a minor update Beta 3.1 with fixes for the following issues: • Fixed issues that caused the lock screen to intercept…
🤖 Google has released Android 15 Beta 4.

Beta 4 is the last scheduled update in the Android 15 beta testing program, which means that all APIs and system behaviors are final. Important changes in this beta:

• Removed PNG-based emoji font
Android 15 removes the legacy PNG-based emoji font file (NotoColorEmojiLegacy.ttf) meaning that some Android 15 devices such as Pixel will only have the vector-based file. With Android 13, the system used the vector variant while keeping the font with PNG for compatibility.

For adaptation, developers are advised:
• Use platform text rendering. You can render text to a bitmap-backed Canvas and use that to get a raw image if necessary.
• Make sure your text library supports COLRv1 fonts. The FreeType open source library version 2.13.0 or later supports it.
• As a last resort, you can bundle the legacy emoji font (currently 10.1MB) into your APK.

Build: AP31.240517.031 → AP31.240617.009
Security patch level: July 2024

Developer-reported issues
• Fixed an issue with contrast that made some elements in Quick Settings Tiles hard to read. (Issue #340944691)
• Fixed an issue that in some rare cases caused some Pixel devices to get stuck in an unbootable state if the device was factory reset shortly after an OTA system update was installed. (Issue #349860641, Issue #349978813)

Other resolved issues
• Fixed an issue where sometimes an Android Virtual Device (AVD) using an Android 15 system image failed to launch if the AVD was launched in embedded mode.
• Fixed an issue that sometimes caused app notification settings to fail to be restored when restoring a device from backup.
• Fixed an issue for Pixel Fold devices that prevented a user from continuing Face Unlock enrollment if the device was folded or unfolded during the process.
• Fixed various other issues that were impacting system stability, connectivity, performance, usability, and camera.

Bluetooth resolved issues
• Fixed a bug which prevented the Digital Car Key app from performing low latency scans when running in foreground.
• Made a fix to use custom UUIDs instead of standard HOGP service UUID in Android head-tracking service.
• Use head-tracking codec capabilities to detect transport support in LE Audio stack.
• Made a fix to prevent immediate rejection of Bluetooth pairing requests when there's a mismatch between the API-suggested transport and the transport observed by the Bluetooth stack, potentially improving pairing success rates.

🤖 Android 15 Easter Egg includes the 'Landroid Autopilot Engaged' sceensaver.

The Easter Egg in Android 15 is essentially the same space travel mini-game as in Android 14, but with the addition of the ability for users to put flags on space objects.

However, it also has one more additional feature: the 'Landroid AUTOPILOT ENGAGED' screensaver, which, when launched, displays the spaceship traveling in autopilot mode.

In order for the screensaver to appear in the list, you must first activate the android easter egg. To activate the easter egg, open Settings > About Phone > Android Version and tap on "Android Version" several times until you see the Android 15 logo floating in space. Hold down the "Logo" button and you'll see "stars" start whizzing by, then a space travel mini-game will open.

Pixel 9 series devices will get an updated display.

According to Android Authority, the Pixel 9, 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL will use Samsung's M14 OLED panel as the display. This panel will offer higher brightness and longevity. The same panel will be used in the iPhone 16 Pro (Pro Max).

The base Pixel 9 will get a display with a brightness of 1,800 nits (vs. 1,400 nits in the Pixel 8). Whereas in the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL this figure reaches 2,050 nits (vs. 1,600 in the Pixel 8 Pro). These values are relevant displaying HDR content in full-screen mode, so localized peak brightness values will be even higher. For example, the 8 Series had peak brightness values of 2,000 and 2,400 Nits, respectively.

The Pixel 9 Pro's display diagonal is 6.34 inches, which is close to that of the base Pixel 9 (6.2). Also, all three devices will get a larger corner radius.

Pixel Buds Pro 2 design has appeared on Amazon

A product with a case for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 has appeared on the Amazon page of the Spigen brand, as shared by Reddit user Living_Series8400 (via 9to5Google). The images attached to the product reveal the appearance of Google's next wireless headphones.

The top cap of the earbuds, which houses the capacitive touch sensors, has become noticeably taller. Also increased grilles, whose color is now matched to the color of the case.

The case of the headphones has not changed in design, but the case protection has a hole near the USB-C connector, which may hint at the presence of a speaker for searching the case via Find My Device Network.

Also, Dylan Roussel previously posted about the color variations of the Pixel Buds Pro 2:

• Raspberry (pictured)
• Mojito
• Porcelain
• Haze
