[Part 1]
• "Find nearby items"
If you're near a lost device but need more help finding it, a "Find Nearby" button will appear to help you figure out exactly where it’s hiding. Starting in May, you'll also be able to search for Bluetooth tags in this way.
• The Find My Device app now shows a lost device’s proximity to your home Nest devices, giving you an easy reference point.
• Share accessories with friends and family
For instance, share your house key with your roommate, the TV remote with your friend or luggage with a travel buddy so you can easily divide and conquer if something goes missing.
• Headphones from JBL, Sony and others will soon get a software update adding support for the Find My Device network.

Google has released the first public beta of the next version of its operating system. Registration for the public beta test is open to users of Pixel 6 and newer devices. (But I still don't recommend doing so).
The first beta includes the following new features and changes to try out (as described by Google):
• Window inset changes (navbar and statusbar)
• App-managed profiling with ProfilingManager
• Inter-character text justification option
• OS-level support for app archiving with PackageInstaller.requestArchive()
• Changes to key management for end-to-end encryption
• Wallet role
Build: AP31.240322.018
Security patch level: April 2024

First problems with Android 15 Beta 1.
• NFC is dead. The settings page is missing all items and Google Wallet requires you to enable NFC, but you obviously can't do it.
• Double headers on some settings pages.
My condolences to those who ignored the recommendation not to install the beta.

Android 15 Beta 1 adds a new "allow WEP networks" toggle under Settings > Network & Internet > Internet > Network preferences that lets you disable connections to Wi-Fi networks secured by WEP.
"WEP is an older security protocol that's less secure", the setting warns.

Android 15 Beta 1 adds a new "cellular network security" settings page under Settings > Security & privacy > More security & privacy with toggles for "security notifications" and "require encryption."
This page controls Android 15's new anti-stingray protection features I first reported on for Android Authority.

Earlier this year, I broke the news that Google is bringing back lock screen widget support in Android 15.
I now have more information: This feature is aimed at tablets, like the Pixel Tablet, and not phones.
Full details plus screenshots can be found in my latest article for Android Authority.

Android 15 Beta 1 revamps the system animation for in-app (predictive back) navigation. Here's a look at the updated animation.
The back-to-home animation is unchanged and predictive back gestures are still disabled by default, though.

In an email sent out to Google One subscription members, the company outlined some changes, including the shutdown of Google One's VPN service.
...we're discontinuing free shipping for select print orders from Google Photos (in Canada, the UK, US, and EU) starting on May 15 and VPN by Google One later this year. As a Pixel user, you'll continue to enjoy being able to access VPN from Google through Pixel settings if you have Pixel 7 or newer models.
That is, Pixel devices will stop using the Google One app and switch to the built-in service, which means no constant notifications.
In a comment to 9to5Google, the company told the "[they] found people simply weren’t using it". The company said that dropping the feature will allow the team to "refocus" and "support more in-demand features on Google One."
Recall that this service only provided a secure connection and did not give access to resources blocked in the country. The service existed since October 2020 and will be closed later this year.
