Google Chat on Android and iOS has gotten a new navigation design
Google introducing a new bottom navigation bar within the *Gmail* Chat app on Android & iOS devices that will now have easy access to the following views:
• Home: helps you stay on top of all conversions in one unified view, with a filter that allows you to drill down to unread messages.
• Direct messages: see a compact list of all your 1:1 and group messages, including pinned conversations at the top of the list.
• Spaces: see a compact list of all your spaces, including pinned conversations at the top of the list.
• Mentions: helps you easily find messages from conversations and spaces where you’ve been mentioned.
Google demonstrated the redesign with an example of a built into the Gmail app Chat tab. The "Chat" and "Spaces" tabs will be merged into one, and there will be a new floating pill-shaped container above the navigation bar with a chat FAB on the right. How this change will affect the standalone Сhat app is not yet clear.
This change will be available to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts in the coming weeks.

There are now more than one billion monthly active users who have RCS enabled in Google Messages. To celebrate reaching this milestone, Google Messages is introducing seven new new ways to express yourself :
1. Photomoji — lets you turn your favorite photos into a reaction using Google's AI right on your device. Simply select a photo, choose the object you want to turn into a photomoji, and tap the "Send" button. They'll be saved in a special tab for reuse, and your friends in group chats will also be able to use the photomoji you send.
2. Voice Moods, plus improved audio quality — Voice moods bring voice messages to life. With nine different emotions to choose from, the recipient will be able to hear your words along with a visual that expresses your feelings in the moment. Voice messages also have increased bitrate and sampling rate.
3. Screen Effects — when typing specific phrases like "it's snowing" or "I love you", you will see full-screen animations. Try to uncover all 15+ hidden Screen Effects prompt words.
4. Custom Bubbles — Customize the bubble color and backgrounds of your conversation and the person you’re communicating with.
5. Reaction Effects — ten popular emoji: 👍❤️ 😂😮😡👎💩🎉😠😢 will get special reaction animations on messages.
6. Animated Emoji
7. Profiles — you can personalize your profile name and the photo that accompanies your phone number. With Profiles, you can now define what you look like on Google services. This solves the problem of receiving messages from phone numbers not saved in your contacts, which can be especially useful in group chats so you know who everyone else in the group is.
