Google's new Magnifier app is available for download on the Pixel 5 and later!
The Magnifier app uses your camera "to magnify small text, see object details, or zoom in on faraway text like street signs or restaurant menus behind a service counter."
You can change the image contrast and brightness, zoom in even further, use filters, control the flashlight intensity, and search, listen, or copy text with Google Lens.

Renders of the mid-budget Pixel 8a surfaced online.
At the end of September, we already saw the leaked live images of the Pixel 8a, and now insider OnLeaks (via Smartprix) has published renders of the device, as well as some of its specs:
Dimensions: 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9mm (Pixel 7a dimensions: 152.4 x 72.9 x 9.0mm.).
Display diagonal: ~6.1 inches
CPU: Tensor G3 with Mali-G715 GPU
RAM: 8GB

Google Camera's Pro controls can technically work on any Tensor-powered Pixel device.
Insider Kamila Wojciechowska has gotten early access to the new Google Camera v.9.1.098. By default, the Pro controls are only available for the Pixel 8 Pro. However, Camila was able to modify the app to "force" these controls to appear, and it turns out that they can work on Pixel 6 — 7 Pro devices without issue.
In the attached materials, Kamila showed manual focus, the ability to switch camera modules, ISO and shutter speed adjustments (Pixel 7 Pro — max 8 sec, Pixel 8 Pro — max 16 sec).
Mishaal Rahman has also confirmed, that Pro Controls technically works on his Pixel 6 Pro.

Google Camera 9.1 adds a "rich color in photos" toggle that lets you capture images using the Display P3 color format instead of sRGB. This setting is enabled by default on the Pixel 8 series.
Display P3 wide gamut capture is a new capability of Android 14. Devices can capture wide gamut color images in JPEG format without using 10-bit HDR.

The Pixel 8 is the first phone to capture photos in Ultra HDR, a new format that I think could be the future of mobile photography!
Ultra HDR is something you really need to see to understand, though, so I worked with Dylan Raga to put together a demo that shows it off. The results are STUNNING!
If you're using a Chromium-based browser on a PC running Windows 11/macOS with an HDR display or on a Pixel 7 running Android 14, then you can see these Ultra HDR samples in their full glory by going to the GitHub repo linked in my latest article for Android Police.
On Wednesday, you're going to see a lot of reviews of the Pixel 8 series go up. Unfortunately, since platform support for Ultra HDR is so limited, many of those reviews will be unable to showcase the photos taken from the phone in their full glory.
Most social media sites and CMSes compress images, which will result in the HDR gain map being removed from the Ultra HDR .jpg. Even Windows File Explorer corrupts the metadata when you simply edit the EXIF tags!
Oh, and the photos I took were all from a Pixel 6 Pro using Google Camera 9.1 (pulled from a Pixel 8). This means that yes, certain older Pixels are able to capture in Ultra HDR as well.

Demo of Google Photos' Magic Editor' feature running on the Pixel 6 and 7 Pro ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Magic Editor is an experimental editor that uses generative artificial intelligence that is 'exclusive' to Pixel 8 series. Mishaal Rahman was able to make the feature work on his Pixel 7 Pro via spoofing some props on the lates Google Photos update, and showed the ability to move and resize objects. But the features don't stop there.
I was also able to activate this feature on my Pixel 6 and found the following features:, change image styling, enhance portraits, and change the sky and even water.
This feature requires you to back up your image for it to work, so apparently all the computing happens in the cloud.
