🇬🇧 Google News is readying a Material You redesign In the latest update to Google News (;D), version 3.53, Google started to redesign the bottom navigation bar, which is now taller, has a slight hue to it, and features a pill shape that indicates which tab…
The first look at the Material You redesign of the Google News app on tablets.
In the 5.71 update, the company began work on a redesign of the app in tablet view. As always, they added a navigation rail with MD3 components. For now it is only available in landscape orientation.
Meanwhile, the page content is now separated from the header and navigation rail by a container with rounded corners on top. They've also updated the shape of the search bar.
What's noteworthy is that Google continues to implement the navigation rail in landscape orientation on phones, as we've already seen in Google TV and Google Drive.
An updated Material You navigation bar was already present in the app last May but it is still not available to end users.

Android Privacy Sandbox has entered the beta testing phase.
A year ago, Google announced a long-term Privacy Sandbox initiative for Android to balance ads in apps and improve your data protection. A few months later, the company released the first Developer Preview build, and now it's ready to move into the beta testing stage.
According to Mishaal Rahman, Privacy Sandbox on Android has become available on devices with Extension SDK 4+, which is already rolled out. The feature itself, however, is currently disabled on the server side, as it is only available in apps or devices approved for beta testing. Developers must fill out a special form to join the program.
From the screenshots you can see the setup wizard and the settings page.

New details about the Pixel Tablet.
Kuba Wojciechowski revealed some new details about the upcoming device. The tablet will feature 8GB of Samsung LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of Kioxia UFS storage.
The display on the device is a 2560x1600 CSoT "ppa957db2d" with a RT4539 LED driver, which is typically used for driving the backlight layer on LCDs, which means that the Pixel Tablet most likely doesn't have an OLED screen.
Also, on the "About Tablet" settings page, my curiosity was piqued by the very top item 'Dock Settings'. Apparently, here you can control the settings of the dock with the speaker, as well as update its software.
About the Tangor Pro code name. Google originally developed just a "tangor" with a first-gen Tensor chip, but then cancelled the project in favor of "tangorpro" based on the Tensor G2 chip. And this is the only difference between the devices.

Pixel Tablet will have 'Hub mode' settings.
In the third beta of Android 13 QPR2, the company has built in a new (hidden) settings page for the upcoming tablet. This included: Screensaver settings while charging or on the dock; At a glance widget settings; Lock screen settings; and Cast.
This appears to be an incomplete list, as the "others" section remains blank. My guess is that items related to the Google app will appear here, because recently the app added activites mentioning 'hubmode'.
Perhaps Dock Settings will appear here as well.

Wallpaper & style app will have separate tabs for customizing the Lock Screen and Home Screen.
This is most likely intended for upcoming customization options for lock screen elements such as clocks and shortcuts. So far, it all looks pretty raw, and it's unlikely we'll see it in the final Android 13 QPR2 release in March. Perhaps the feature is saved for QPR3 or Android 14.

How the lock screen shortcuts customization will look like.
As expected, separate tabs for the 'home screen' and 'locked screen' are designed to allow customization of the 'Custom Clock' and 'Shortcuts' on the lock screen.
You will be able to select options for the left and right buttons such as: Flashlight, Do Not Disturb mode, Device Controls, Camera, or None (no button). And call actions on the lock screen will be available by holding instead of pressing once (demonstration in the video).

Google Maps on Android has changed the logic of hiding the UI.
If previously it was enough just to click on an empty space on the map, now you need to swipe up on the search bar. But to make the interface appear again, you still need to click on the map.
Clicking on an empty spot (when the interface is not hidden) now just shows the coordinates of the specified location on the map.

Google announced Bard, a conversational AI based on LaMDA, which should compete with ChatGPT.
The company has opened testing to trusted testers. For now, it is using a lighter version of the LaMDA model, which requires less processing power, which will allow it to reach more users and get more feedback. And for average users, testing of Bard will become widely available in the coming weeks.
Google will also be introducing artificial intelligence-based features into its products, with projects such as LaMDA, PaLM, Imagen and MusicLM. One of the first such features will generate answers to your queries in Google Search, "distill complex information and multiple perspectives into easy-to-digest formats".

Imported Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, but no support for VoLTE and VoWiFi on your local carriers? There is a non-root solution!
Usually, when you buy a phone that is not officially sold in your country, it cannot work with IMS services of local carriers. Experienced users are used to install Magisk modules, which add the necessary files to the firmware.
However, Korean developer kyujin-cho wrote an app that allows you to enable VoLTE and VoWiFi support on the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7 and 7 Pro without root access using Shizuku!
In short, all you need to do is to configure Shizuku, install 'PixelIMS' app, activate VoLTE in it and reboot the device a couple of times. Then check the IMS status in the internal menu by dialing the code *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer.
