🇬🇧 Android 13 DP2: Pixel Launcher experiments with floating bottom search bar in the launcher app drawer

Pixel Launcher gains a new feature flag ENABLE_FLOATING_SEARCH_BAR. When enabled, it shifts the search bar in the app drawer to the bottom of the screen.

The search bar remains at the bottom until the keyboard is opened, after which it’ll shift to stay above the keyboard.

В Pixel Launcher появился новый флаг ENABLE_FLOATING_SEARCH_BAR. При его включении строка поиска в списке приложений перемещается в нижнюю часть экрана.

🇬🇧 Android 13 DP2: New screenshot like Clipboard editor overlay (disabled by default)

Now, whenever the user copies text or images, a clipboard overlay will appear in the bottom left corner. It contains a preview of copied text or image as well as an edit button that, when tapped, opens the Markup activity (for images) or a lightweight text editing activity (for text). If copied text contains actionable information (address, phone number, URL) then an additional chip may be shown to send the appropriate intent.

🇬🇧 Android 13 DP2: Google has added a new WallpaperEffects API to create "3D wallpapers" that "[move] when your phone moves."

In the latest version of the WallpaperPicker app from DP2 on Pixel devices,there are strings that hint at a new “Effects” tab being added to the interface. This tab will allow users to apply cinematic effects to their wallpaper, including a 3D wallpaper effect.

The new isAuthRequired method in the Control class allows developers to choose whether to request an unlock when you tap a device tile. Since this behavior can be set per-control, apps can block users from interacting with certain smart home devices when their phones are locked.

🇬🇧 Android TV 12 will start showing up on TVs ‘Later’ this year

A blog post published to Medium by Google’s Paul Lammertsma announcing two things:

1) The platform’s dedicated developer device, the ADT-3, can now download Android 12 via an OTA instead of manually flashing the update.
2) Android TV 12 is on its way to a formal release. While no specifics are mentioned, Google says that Android TV 12 will “being appearing” on TVs “later this year.”
