Wim Wenders, a master of the New German Cinema. As an auteur filmmaker, Wenders has been shaping the German film scene since the 1970s. He has made a name for himself internationally by combining atmospheric snapshots, visually stunning landscape panoramas and poetic reflections with film traditions from Europe and the USA. Whether road movies, documentaries, film essays or literary adaptations - his work as an auteur filmmaker is diverse and cross-genre. His most successful films include „Paris, Texas“ (1983), „Der Himmel über Berlin“ (1987) and „In weit Ferne, so nah!“ (1993).

These film series on Wim Wenders is for film lovers, Discover the cinematic genius of Wim Wenders with the Goethe-Institut Äthiopien as we present a series of five screenings from May to September. Join us on 11 October at 6 pm, for the first film as part of Andreas Dresen film series, ‘Gundermann’ a story about the East German singer-songwriter and coal miner, exploring his life and music amidst the complexities of a changing society.

Gerhard Gundermann (1955-1998) was an excavator driver in open-cast lignite mining, a Stasi informer, but above all a gifted singer-songwriter with a fan base in the GDR and in post-reunification Germany. Director Andreas Dresen dedicates himself to this contradictory personality in a sensitive biographical narrative, a modern musical homeland film for both East and West Germany.

Popcorn is complementary and admission is free.
